My mate Fred directed it, and hoping to ask him to be my best man if I can get a hold of him. Might even have a band for the wedding sewn up too!

President of the National University of Ireland Maynooth Music Society, Alan Costello, writes:

“As today is World Mental Health Day we decided to get involved and use what we know, music. We created a project called InstruMENTAL Health, and this video is the result. Music has long been known to have a therapeutic and restorative effect to a person’s mental and even physical health, and we’re encouraging everyone to get involved, we’re asking everyone to Tweet and Facebook with #InstruMENTALHealth with their experiences with music. Thanks for watching. :)”

Would you like your child to learn music without having to learn music?

You may like this.

Musician/music teacher Shane McKenna, writes:

From my experience, tradition musical notation is not suitable for either teachers or children in today’s classrooms. It is a complex, abstract way of composing and performing music, which is very useful to professional musician, composers and theorists but not very relevant to primary school children or their teachers.

We have created a new multimedia method of teaching music to children through a combination of words, animation, illustration activities, performance and creativity.

The system is based on a collection of free online resources at DabbledooMusic.com which has been visited by over 12,000 people in the last year, all over the world, including 3000 from the UK. We also self published an activity book for children last Christmas.

The project is a collaboration myself  and street artist and educator Killian Redmonk. We believe this is the most accessible creative and beneficial way to learn about music and are currently running a fundit.ie campaign to raise money to upgrade the free online resources, into a fully interactive experience.

Thom Conaty writes:

“I run a Dublin based start-up that teaches musicians DIY electronics (how to make guitar pedals, synthesizers, amps etc…). We have been running workshops around Ireland for the past year (teaching over 250 musicians) and have recently received investment from Enterprise Ireland to expand the workshops and build an online learning platform.”

“We are just about to start twice monthly workshops in Dublin as well as in Belfast, Galway and Cork. By learning how to make their own equipment, musicians can create a sound that is unique to them, better understand the music they are making, and save a fortune on retail equipment. As a start-up we are obviously looking to spread the word about our project, and we thought (hoped really), that it be something that would interest your readership.”
