“Now on the Saturday Night Show two weeks ago, comments were made by a guest [Miss Panti Bliss, Rory O’Neill] suggesting that the journalist and broadcaster John Waters, Breda O’Brien and some members of the Iona Institute are homophobic. These are not the views of RTE and we would like to apologise for any upset or distress caused to the individuals named or identified. It’s an important part of democratic debate that people must be able to hold dissenting views on controversial issues…

…Now, coming up in part two, could you cope if society collapsed? And we’ll see the cream of upcoming Irish craft design.”

Brendan O’Connor, Saturday Night Show this evening.

Fuppin’ groupthink.

Homeless but healthy.

Michael O’Riordan writes:

I appreciate you don’t normally do this but I live in Clane, Co Kildare. The past few days there has been a little dog wandering around, and today I found he is sheltering in my garden. He was really hungry but is otherwise well cared for. He has a collar, but the vet is closed so I cannot tell if he is tagged. Definitely a pet, he is very friendly and house broken, and I think has been starved of company for the last short while. I’ve called the Kildare SPCA but they and other homes are full but have noted my call in case an owner calls. Have let the local guards know and went door to door. No luck so far.

Anyone?

[Scenes from the Reform Alliance ‘monster meeting’ at the RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin today]

[Lucinda Creighton] said that this is not about party politics and it is not about replicating what is already there, she said. Rather it is about getting people in power to embrace some of the reforms discussed at this meeting. More meetings will now take place across the country, Ms Creighton saidThe attendance at the meeting shows that people do want something new and different. She got a standing ovation when she mentioned the stand she and her colleagues took against abortion legislation last year.
