Mary Carolan, in The Irish Times, reports:

Businessman Denis O’Brien’s action over statements made by two TDs in the Dáil about his banking affairs has concluded at the High Court with judgment reserved.

Ms Justice Una Ní Raifeartaigh reserved judgment until the new year and said she would not finalise her decision until the High Court rules on the separate case of former Rehab chief executive Angela Kerins. That case raises some similar issues and judgment was reserved on it last October.

RTÉ reports:

The Government has lost a Dáil vote on pension equality legislation proposed by Sinn Féin. The Government’s counter-motion was defeated by 83 votes to 49 after Fianna Fáil voted with Sinn Féin.

The original Sinn Féin motion was put forward by Wicklow TD John Brady.

In it, he calls for an end to the situation whereby people – who have to retire at 65 – have to go on jobseekers’ allowance for a year before getting access to their pension.

He also called for pension equality for women following changes to pension bands and rates in 2012.

Greg Lake, who fronted both King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, has died aged 69.

One of the founding fathers of progressive rock, the British musician is known for songs including In The Court Of The Crimson King and I Believe in Father Christmas.

The news comes nine months after Lake’s band-mate Keith Emerson died. Keyboardist Emerson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound…

Prog on, you crazy diamonds.
