Why pay over €700 for a pair of Nike Back To The Future II ‘Self-Lacing’ Runners?

Why not build your own with LEGO and a glue gun?

Well, this is why.

In fairness, maker Vimal Patel admits:

This was a quick experiment into combining LEGO with other materials. To build on the shoe, I used a dremel and a hot glue gun to fix a few LEGO connection points. From there, it was straightforward to experiment with different designs and test their functionality. It works reasonably well, but I’m sure it can be done much better with a bit of effort.

The design of this fabulous customized “Overlook Hotel” drum kit inspired by 1980 film, The Shining, was made by UK-based company Badgerwood Drums. In addition to the wrap finish based on the distinctive carpeting found in the corridors of the Overlook covering the bass drum, the snare, and floor and rack toms, the bass drum head also bears the parting shot in the film where Jack Nicholson’s character Jack Torrance finally joins the other ghostly guests and employees of the hotel in an eerie black and white photograph….

Dublin City University Professor Colum Kenny said while he did not view the potential take over [Of Celtic media by Denis O’Brien’s Independent News and Media] in personal terms, he said he had “difficulties” appearing before a committee looking at the take over of INM on which Mr [Michael’ Lowry sits.

“I think there’s a conflict of interest“, he said.

He also expressed concern over the lack of “firm details” regarding the takeover and said such circumstances made it difficult to give an informed position.

Prof Kenny said he did not understand how the committee had been asked to make a consideration of a matter before the Broadcasting Authority

My current favorite song by a new Irish artist is Falling for You by Daithí featuring Sinead White because, not only is it a powerful vocal on her end, but he spent the last year traveling Ireland, recording sounds from the landscape to incorporate into his tracks, so I mean this quite literally when I say this is the sound of Ireland!

Other highlights from the running:

Gorugeen: ‘My current favourite song by a new Irish artist is Charlene by Chewing on Tinfoil because the video is so simple, honest, which reflects the song. It’s a tune that’s emotional but not at all soppy. It’s a touch raucous and sung in a genuine accent. An all round great package.’

Odockatee: ‘My current favourite song by a new Irish artist is Tin Man by Saint Sister because it has great harmonies, a real velvet flow and it’s just cool.’

Anne: ‘Lynched are very good’.

Penfold: ‘My current favourite song by a new Irish artist is Bullethead by Fangclub because its a great rough sounding riff laden track that showcases the bands grungey influences. Not sure if it qualifies as new as picked it up midway through last year.’

Eight lives left … lucky for this cat, it was spotted by the Garda Traffic Corps stuck in the grille of a van on the N17. The driver thought he was being stopped for speeding, and a Garda managed to free the cat uninjured.
