This morning.
Via BBC:
A panel has called for a public inquiry to be held into institutions for unmarried mothers in Northern Ireland.
The three experts also advised that there should be immediate redress payments to survivors.
The devolved government committed to an investigation after research into mother-and-baby homes and Magdalene Laundries was published.
Women said they were detained against their will, used as unpaid labour and had to give up babies for adoption.
The primary recommendation in Tuesday’s report is to establish an “integrated Investigation” by a non-statutory independent panel, feeding into a statutory public inquiry.
There are also further recommendations for supporting measures to ensure that victims and survivors can participate in the investigation, including access to records legislation.

An independent inquiry into alleged sex abuse of minors by French Catholic priests, deacons and other clergy has found some 216,000 victims from 1950 to 2020, a “massive phenomenon” that was covered up for decades by a “veil of silence.”
Via The Local:
The landmark report, released on Tuesday after two and a half years of investigations, follows widespread outrage over a string of sex abuse claims and prosecutions against Church officials worldwide.
When lay members of the Church such as teachers at Catholic schools are included, the number of child abuse victims climbs to 330,000 over the seven-decade period.
Meanwhile…
The report, at nearly 2,500 pages, found that the “vast majority” of victims were pre-adolescent boys from a wide variety of social backgrounds.
“The Catholic Church is, after the circle of family and friends, the environment that has the highest prevalence of sexual violence,” the report said.
Commission president Jean-Marc Sauve had already told AFP on Sunday that a “minimum estimate” of 2,900 to 3,200 paedophiles had operated in the French Church since 1950.
Yet only a handful of cases prompted disciplinary action under canonical law, let alone criminal prosecution.

‘The day after Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger went down for over six hours, costing owner Mark Zuckerberg billions of dollars, a large private yacht arrived in Sorrento, with waiters from the city’s hotels proclaiming that Zuckerberg was on board. At the moment we are unable to verify if this is true.’

In an oddly short update on its engineering blog, Facebook explained the root cause of the outage that saw half the world suddenly post memes on Twitter, and the other half realize WhatsApp (another Facebook service that was down) isn’t a good backup for Messenger.
“Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt,” the post said.
The outage also had an effect on the company’s internal systems, which is why it took so long to fix it, Facebook said.
Meanwhile..
The timing of the outage was somewhat suspicious, given that it happened right after a whistleblower went public with damning info on how Facebook handles misinformation on its platform. However, Facebook is adamant that the root cause of the outage is the misconfiguration issue detailed above.
Finally, Facebook said it has no evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime.

Project Veritas released the fourth part of an investigations into the Covid vaccine.
Three Pfizer scientists told undercover journalists that natural antibodies are a better protection against Covid than the vaccine, with one saying:
“When somebody is naturally immune — like they got COVID — they probably have more antibodies against the virus…When you actually get the virus, you’re going to start producing antibodies against multiple pieces of the virus…So, your antibodies are probably better at that point than the [COVID] vaccination.”
