Joe Chester – Anyway

Get me to the church on time.

Specifically, the 17th century baroque chapel of l’Eglise du Gesu in Nice, France, where Joe Chester has recorded his new live album Under The Ragged Thorn without an audience.

The album is currently only available as a limited edition CD on Bohemia Records and spans Joe’s solo career to date, including songs from last year’s double album Jupiter’s Wife.

Joe is also known as an ace producer and for his work with The Waterboys, Sinéad O’Connor, Hedge Schools and, last but not least, A Lazarus Soul.

Joe has uploaded videos of some of the live performances onto his YouTube channel.

Nick says: Nice work.

Jinx Lennon sings ‘Pushing The Patients Round’ on The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ 1.

Johnny Keenan writes:

Delighted to see Jinx Lennon being talked about far and wide online, after his performance on The Tommy Tiernan Show over the weekend.

The first time I saw Jinx perform was in 2005. It’s fair to say he blew my mind. I was delighted and honoured to have booked him many times since.

Jinx is a porter in Dundalk hospital. Like the song goes, pushin’ all the patients round. His music is raw and real. He is one of the very few Irish artists to tell it as he sees it.

For all the new fans of Jinx please enjoy this live set from a fantastic venue run by sound heads in Dundalk’s premiere venue, Spirit Store, the breathing ground for emerging talent.

The new  St Teresa’s Gardens complex in Dublin 8

Stephen Coyne writes:

Railings as far as the eye can see.

The Liberties newest street is a ‘road’ – Margaret Kennedy Road, fronting onto what will be a regenerated St Teresa’s Gardens. 54 new social housing units.

But why not a ‘street’? Why not city centre character?

Anyone?

A planning application has been submitted for a 45-floor apartment block on North Wall Quay, Dublin 1

Gulp.

Archidub writes:

Planning application submitted to An Bord Pleanala for 1,005 apartments in 3 blocks ranging from 8 to 45 storeys on a 1.1 hectare site at City Block 9 on North Wall Quay, Dublin 1 (North Lotts). While its unlikely to be built in its current form due to Docklands SDZ’s onerous height limits, it does seem likely a version of this will be constructed at some stage in future whether this is through waiting for a change in the SDZ or abolishing the SDZ.

Splutter!

This afternoon.

Via RITE [Ringsend and Irishtown Tidy Towns]:

Thanks to [Sinn Féin TD] Chris Andrews (top left) for sponsoring a receptacle for butts at one of our bus stops from NoButts.ie. Butts will be collected and recycled. No 2 will be in place shortly sponsored by local [SF] councillor Daniel Céithinn (top right)…

No johnnies.

The votes are in.

Last week, with a sparkling €25 Golden Discs voucher on offer, I asked you to name the song you sing while Hoovering.

You answered in your dozens, providing a dust-beating playlist of domestic chore-easing choonage.

But there could be only one winner.

Third Place:

Flawless – George Michael

Bertie Blenkinsop writes:

The perfect song for those of us who only dance from the knees up (and are partial to a double hand clap)…

Runner-up:

Fluke – Tosh

Clampers Outside writes:

I used to do most of my hoovering and cleaning after a big night out as I always found it a good way to get up and work off the previous nights excesses. The single came with 4 mixes – GOSH, MOSH, COSH & POSH – with the first, GOSH, being my preferred as it’s a faster track with a fuller sound that feels really lush, but yet it won’t grate on that sore head, but instead, carry you away to the night before as you run that sucker over the floors :) No better tune to lift the spirits while working off the excesses of the night before while doing the mundane of the morning after :)

Winner:

Etta James – seven day fool.

Eamonn writes

Hoover your heart out, my hearties. No noise cancelling ‘phones on my head, so……. before or after hoovering, indeed, anytime anyday, Etta sounds good. Would you rather brush the dog or Hoover? it is one of life’s imponderables…

Nick says: Thanks all.
