One of  series of functional sculptures by New York artist Sebastian ErraZuriz – a birch credenza made from an elaborate array of 100 hinged wooden slats that open in rolling wave patterns. Sez he:

I am inviting people to look at one of the simplest forms of furniture design and to forget that we’re talking about furniture, instead to see it as a way of breaking a box. I love the idea of creating beautiful furniture; nevertheless I am much more interested in using the medium as an excuse to trigger people’s curiosity and create a connection with them.

‘They Don’t Sell Pregnancy Test Kits This Late’ – a new poem by Alvy Carragher, who writes:

This one deals with that awful moment when you’re not sure if you’re pregnant and the shame/angst/options that you inevitably end up weighing in your mind. I think it’s important at the minute because we are hoping to repeal the 8th, and the more people that learn to understand the position women are in, the better.

A tiny octopus (first discovered 20 years ago) that may soon be named Opistoteuthlis adorabilis, on account of the adorbz what it has.

The honour of naming a new species always goes to the first scientist to thoroughly classify and describe it, in this case, Stephanie Bush of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.

It’s cute, but it’s no Squishy.
