A very pleasing, if unseasonal time-lapse by photographer Casper Rolsted featuring Springtime from the deciduous forests of Skjoldungernes Land National Park to the mist-covered inlets of Ise Fjord, and across the ice-age regions of West Zealand.

More of his work, including three more instalments of Scandinavian seasons here.

Irish people should continue to wear face coverings even after the worst of Covid is over, says Anthony Staines (above), a professor of public health at Dublin City University

This morning.

“I would continue to wear a mask well after Christmas. To make it unnecessary we need to bring viral transmission and case numbers down a lot.

“A shift to outdoor culture and more mask wearing and working from home are not bad things. Mask wearing could be a permanent change in our behaviour like the Asian culture.”

This morning.

A 20-minute long colour video capturing the visit of President John F. Kennedy to New Ross in County Wexford in June 1963 is to be donated to the Kennedy Book and Research Archive at New Ross Library during this year’s 2021 Kennedy Summer School.

Ann Power writes:

The Kennedy Book and Research Archive is delighted to accept the Movie collection of Mrs. Peggy Walsh, Hoodsgrove, Rosbercon, New Ross.

Peggy, now 98 years old was a keen photographer and videographer and back in the day made lots of short movies capturing the most important events of the day in New Ross including the visit of President Kennedy to the town, the last days of the New Ross Dublin Train Service, play at New Ross Golf Club and many others.

The poignant footage will be showcased to the public for the first time at an outdoor screening event hosted by New Ross Library at the New Ross Library Park on September 2nd, 2021 at 5.30pm.

This event takes place as part of the annual Kennedy Summer School which will be hosted in New Ross in County Wexford from September 2nd to 4th 2021 with some events also available online.

What better time to belatedly feature One Morning In August than… one morning in August!

The Waterford/Carlow duo of Stephen Byrne (drums) and John Phelan (vocals, guitar and instrumentation) released their eponymous album last year on FIFA Records.

Producer David Ayers also played on and mastered the album.

The video is by John Haggis.

Nick says: August is a wicked month.
