From Moscow-based photographer Alexander Khokhlov’s 2D or not 2D and Angry Beards projects in which – with the help of makeup artist Valeriya Kutsan and retouching expert Veronica Ershova – heexplores the transformative power of paint and makeup.

Inspired by two-dimensional posters, comics, pop art, paintings, pixelated images, and cartoon characters Khokhlov explains:

Valeriya used different techniques of face painting so you can see a lot of variations – from sketch and graphic arts to water-colour and oil-paintings. This is a combination of interesting make-ups, studio photography experiments and careful retouching.

Prohibition officially ended on Dec. 5, 1933. Eighty years later, Miller Coors’ Batch 19 beer is turning the milestone into a marketing event.

Batch 19 wants to “own the holiday,” said Libby Mura, senor marketing director at Tenth and Blake, the craft and imports division for MillerCoors.

From Le Cool Dublin.

This Thursday in The Bernard Shaw, South Richmond Street, Dublin The Animators, purveyors of very decent Irish hip-hop unveil a new album AND a new song (a collaboration with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)

There’s even talk of a poster slam from a selection of actual animators.

And it’s completely FREE.

Damn decent hip-hopsters

The Guardian’s Alex Godfrey recently blogged his fascinating research into the origins of the painting by Tommy DeVito’s mother in Scorcese’s Goodfellas.

You remember the scene.

The painting used in the movie was created by Goodfellas co-writer Nicholas Pileggi’s mother based on a 1978 photograph in National Geographic magazine of ‘river nomad’ and former banker John Weaving and his dogs Brocky and Twiggy on the Shannon.

Did you know this? We did not know this.

It’s a fascinating story, well told.
