A trainee football coach, who was caught with a stolen monkey in a cage in the back of his car, has been ordered to carry out community service to avoid a jail term.
Paul Murtagh (aged 29) of Birchdale Park, Kinsealy, Co Dublin, and Lighthouse Apartments, East Wall, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty yesterday (MON) to possessing “one common South American Marmoset” worth €1,500.
He was caught with the animal at Ravensdale Road, East Wall, Dublin on October 1 last year, hours after it had been taken during a burglary in Co. Kildare.
Any excuse.

After 25 years of providing courts news to the press for publication, Courts News Ireland have taken the bold step of creating an online courts news service for all.
“We are immensely proud to announce the launch of our website, a dedicated online platform for courts news which breaks new ground in the Irish media market. It is our first foray in to the digital sphere and part of an ambitious plan to bring comprehensive coverage of the Irish courts to our clients and to the public at large. For the first time people will have real-time access to courts news as it breaks and full access to reports as they are filed by our outstanding network of seasoned reporters”. The website embodies Ireland International News Agency’s dedication to excellence in reportage.”

The irresistible rise of the red-haired male continues with the first mercifully pube-free exhibition devoted exclusively to red male hotness.
Few of the Broadsheet ‘rusty posse’ (now greying) banished to the back of the number 10 in the 1980s can quite believe it, in fairness.
They kept the dream alive.
