Households are expected to be paid up to €400 a month to help with the costs of housing Ukrainian refugees, under plans being discussed by Governmenthttps://t.co/vBkrxgTI9j

This morning.
Via RTÉ News:
The proposed payment, which could be announced as early as next week, would aim to cover costs such as extra utilities bills, associated with housing those fleeing the war.
It would also act as an incentive to boost the number of accommodation places available for the number of refugees arriving in Ireland.
Yesterday, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said that there will be no cap to the number of refugees Ireland accepts, even as the Government admits it is facing a struggle to house arriving Ukrainians.

The Government is launching a new campaign this weekend that will inform the public about a range of actions they can choose to take to save energy and money, whilst reducing national energy use.
The campaign will roll out in print, radio, and across social media.
A spokesperson said that the campaign will emphasise how, now more than ever, we need to be mindful of how we use energy.
They said: “The campaign will emphasise how the Government, homeowners, motorists, communities and businesses must all work together to overcome the immediate energy security and affordability challenges.
“This will benefit us individually in our energy bills and nationally in our energy security.”

“That saves consumers money, it reduces the amount of gas that we buy from the market and therefore revenues going to the Russian government. It’s a step in the efficiencies direction where we need to go anyway.”

This morning.
Via BBC:
Russia has given Ukrainian forces in Mariupol a fresh ultimatum to lay down their weapons by 11:00 GMT. They’re holed up in a huge steelworks complex at the moment.
The port city is surrounded but still hasn’t fallen, and Ukraine’s foreign minister said Russia has decided to raze it to the ground.
Around 130,000 citizens have been blockaded in the besieged city for 50 days and are struggling to find food, water, and medicine, the city’s deputy mayor says.

Taking the selfie (above) is Ukrainian refugee Kateryna Pozniakov with her daughter Ilia (age 12), who fled from Kiev to Dublin after the Russian invasion. Along with Kateryna’s mother, they are living in a hotel in Dublin. This is the second time the family has been displaced, having fled from Lugansk to Kiev in 2014 when separatists seized governmental buildings in the region and proclaimed the Luhansk People’s Republic.
