I thought that this is fairly suitable for the site. Daniel Day lewis speaking [at the Ireland American Fund dinner in New York] this week about the Wicklow Hospice and introducing their Chairperson for Fundraising (I’ve to declare an interest – it’s my mum). Just thought I’d flag it as it’s a touching introduction, and I know the charity are always keen for as much publicity as possible.
What you may need to know:
1. Richard Curtis is back! Back! BACK! And his new Hugh Grant is… Domhnall Gleeson?
2. Domhnall’s 30, but he’d pass for 20 at a pinch.
3. It’s Groundhog Day (1993) meets The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005). Or something. Curtis was definitely inspired by his stint writing for Doctor Who.
4. That said, Bill Nighy… legend. He’s about to do two sequels to his TV spy movie, Page Eight (2011).
5. Suggested Alternate Title: Time Travel, Actually.
Release Date: September

Maltese Super Yacht the ‘Lauren L‘, cruising past the Anglo shell. How poetic.
To be honest I’ve never known why,
Witches use broomsticks to fly,
But at least they now know,
They don’t have to fly slow,
As long as they don’t climb too high.

Ombudsman and Information Commissioner Emily O’Reilly, pictured launching her 15th annual report today, has suggested the public is ‘really puzzled’ by the Kieran Boylan case and the subsequent Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission’s report into allegations of collusion between the drug dealer and the Gardaí.
“Obviously we have to take GSOC seriously. Clearly we also have to take the Gardaí and the Department of Justice seriously as well, but I just feel, as a citizen, that we haven’t got to the nub of it yet. I think a lot of people are really puzzled as to where the truth lies in relation to this, and I think the media has a responsibility, actually, to perhaps dig a little deeper into this for the sake of clarity for the public.”
