Coscradhreleasing Demo MMXVI

What you may need to know…

01. A band named for the Irish for “massacre” set an appropriate tone in their debut release. Death metal with black-metal overtones abounds.

02. No Clean Singing has sung/growled the band’s praises effectively: “when they punch the accelerator, it’s pure howling destruction”.

03. Streaming above in its entirety is the band’s demo tape, released digitally via Dublin metal lifers Invictus Productions. Physical cassette to follow, and likely to disappear quickly.

04. Appearing Sunday week in the Voodoo Lounge in Dublin alongside Belfast grinders Unyielding Love in support of Scandinavian metallers Degial and Vorum. Also scheduled for Galway’s Dark Arts fest this August.

Verdict: Ominous, bleak noises, amid sparse, yet considered production. Blistering stuff at its high-speed, suitably grim at a crawl.

A Broadsheet.ie premiere, folks. Hopefully the first of many.

We’ve been singing the praises of Cork’s this lad for a while and for good reason, his psychey, stream-of-consciousness take on the genre being a definite addition to the current experimental noises around hip-hop in Ireland at present.

So we’re proud to present his new collaborative EP, In The Moment. Recorded earlier this year, and featuring appearances from Irish emcees Kestine, Kid Influence, Wellington and JayRonic, this EP sees YP and partners-in-crime take a lateral move into tighter, more propulsive trap-like territory.

Streaming in its entirety above.

What you may need to know

1. Belfast doom-metal monoliths Slomatics have a new album, Future Echo Returns, enroute and available for pre-order via Black Bow Records.

2. Their fifth full-length sees them place continued emphasis on songwriting over heft for its own sake, as detailed in this interview with Stereogum.

3. Streaming above is lead-off single Electric Breath, accompanied by a mad 3D-animated piece from editor Dermot Faloon.

4. Live excursions to launch the record are likely for later this year, but until those announcements, here’s a look at the limited, gatefold, purple-and-green splatter edition of the LP.

Verdict: Fiiiiilthy tones and massive riffs at a (relatively) glacial pace. Perfect for summer barbecues and family gatherings.
