This afternoon.

After the longest trial in the history of the Irish State, Aaron Brady has been found guilty of of the Capital Murder of Det. Garda Adrian Donohoe outside Lordship Credit Union, County Louth seven years ago.

Via RTÉ News:

The prosecution alleged that Brady was the gunman who “wore the shooting as a badge of honour” when he moved to the US a few months later where he believed he was “beyond the arm of the law”.

In order to convict Brady of capital murder, the jury had to be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Brady knew he was shooting a Garda on active duty or was reckless as to whether or not he was a Garda.

On the sixth day of deliberations the five men and seven women, returned a verdict of guilty of capital murder.

This morning.

Further to the house fire in Balbriggan, County Dublin blamed by some as a racially-motivated, gang-related arson attack..

Jakub Zarkowsk on Gofundme writes:

My very close friend Dare lost his house on August the 9 to a fire. The news and media is making it out to be some sort of gang related incident. Honestly it has nothing to do with that. This was a complete accident.

Thankfully his mother and sister weren’t home, his step dad and little brother were in the house at the time but made it out safely. Thank god there all safe but they left behind everything in that house. Any help (at link below) would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Outside It’s America.

A podcast covering 50 states in 50 days.

Journalist and broadcaster Philip O’Connor writes:

I was in the Hilton Hotel in New York where Donald Trump’s campaign was based on election day 2016, and the result shocked everyone – that shouldn’t happen if the media and journalism had done its job.

But it didn’t.

A major part of the reason for that was that nobody listened to ordinary American voters whose ballots decided the election.

So this time around, instead of sitting at a desk rewriting press releases or talking to academics and other journalists and regurgitating opinion polls that turn out to be wrong, I’m going to hit the road through all 50 states for 50 days and see what they have to say.

I’m going to visit diners and laundromats, gyms and gas stations, main streets and city halls to find out exactly what they are thinking and what will influence how they cast their votes.

To do this I need support, so I’ve started a Kickstarter campaign (see below), and there are sponsorship opportunities available.

For €10 (or a measly 20c per episode) you’ll get 50 podcasts, plus an e-postcard from the road every week, and €35 will get you a daily email. For €500 you can sponsor a whole episode, and if you have a big brand and want to sponsor the whole series, then I’m all ears.

The media business is broken, and this is me trying out a new way of making it viable while bringing you something unique that nobody else can or will do.

On November 3, I’ll be in New York, on the ground as the votes are tallied.

Join me.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly

This morning.

Meanwhile….

A new colour-coded response is being considered by the National Public Health Emergency team as part of Ireland’s Covid-19 pandemic plan.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said NHPET has spent a considerable amount of time looking at how Ireland can move to a sustainable long-term plan and the colour-coded system is different to the original roadmap, or phases, outlined by the previous government

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Minister Donnelly said the phases were about providing time frames, but the codes are a warning system on where “we are at on any given day.”

He said he believes the measures introduced for Laois, Kildare and Offaly are very nuanced and it is possible that such measures will be introduced in other areas in the future.
