They’re back.

This afternoon.

Grafton Street, Dublin 2.

Doom laden members of ever so slightly creepy climate group Extinction Rebellion officiate a tug of war between square-headed Big Tech CEOs and young tykes to reflect the uneven struggle between eco warriors and companies that profit from fracking, including Amazon and Google.

This afternoon.

Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.

Shouty, climate-fearing tyke Culainn Baker, aged 8, outside the United States Embassy as part of an Extinction Rebellion Ireland and Fridays For ‘Future School Strikers’ joint action for International Day of Action Against Fracking.

It’s younger they’re getting.

Update:

That’ll learn us.

Yesterday.

Leinster House, Dublin 2

Members of Love Leitrim welcome the passing of the legislative ban on fracking as it completed its final stage in the Seanad..

Love Leitrim was formed in late 2011 with the “purpose of preserving and promoting the quality of life in our part of the world” and stopping UGEE (unconventional gas exploration and extraction); the process commonly known as fracking.

The Bill prohibits fracking in the Irish onshore and its internal waters for both exploration and extraction. It will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.

In fairness.

A video posted on the Facebook page of NSW Green MP Jeremy Buckingham (which has since gone viral). To wit:

Gas explodes from Australian river near fracking site. I was shocked by force of the explosion when I tested whether gas boiling through the Condamine River, Qld was flammable. So much gas is bubbling through the river that it held a huge flame. There has been concern that fracking and extraction of coal seam gas could cause gas to migrate through the rock. Not only is it polluting the river and air, but methane is an extremely potent heat trapping gas. Fugitive emissions from the unconventional gas industry could be a major contributor to climate change and make gas as dirty as burning coal.

Dervilla, of anti-fracking group. Love Leitrim, writes:

A giant  heart installation on Leitrim Hill [by artist Artist Darragh Wilkins] in advance of government meeting with the Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA) this morning.

…The heart is on the  peak of Benbo, a mountain range on the border of Leitrim and Fermanagh, two of the counties at risk from fracking, one in the North of Ireland, one in the South.

jolynn

Jessica writes:

We’re very excited to have the director, Jolynn Minnaar, attending the DCU screening of Unearthed this Thursday as part of the 8×8 Festival.

Jolynn has had quite a few successes this year on the foot of her award-winning documentary.
There are still some [free] tickets available for the DCU event if people were interested in attending.

Jolynn will also partake in a post-screening Q&A in UCC next Tuesday, and a few other screenings around the country (Carrick on Shannon on Friday, Belfast on Saturday, Fermanagh on Sunday, Sligo on Monday).

Looks like good fraic, in fairness.
