theanimators

From Le Cool Dublin.

This Thursday in The Bernard Shaw, South Richmond Street, Dublin The Animators, purveyors of very decent Irish hip-hop unveil a new album AND a new song (a collaboration with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)

There’s even talk of a poster slam from a selection of actual animators.

And it’s completely FREE.

Damn decent hip-hopsters

The Guardian’s Alex Godfrey recently blogged his fascinating research into the origins of the painting by Tommy DeVito’s mother in Scorcese’s Goodfellas.

You remember the scene.

The painting used in the movie was created by Goodfellas co-writer Nicholas Pileggi’s mother based on a 1978 photograph in National Geographic magazine of ‘river nomad’ and former banker John Weaving and his dogs Brocky and Twiggy on the Shannon.

Did you know this? We did not know this.

It’s a fascinating story, well told.

Designed by Scott Miller in the early 90s, water taxis bring players to the green which varies between 95 and 200 yards from the tee.

The Solar Cross e-bike by Terry Hope of R&D company thekpv has eight 0.1kg photovoltaic panels with reflective sides for indirect sun exposure that power the 22kg bike to a frisky 7km/h.

Granted, it’s not what you’d call aerodynamic, but it only cost $500 to build and wind resistance isn’t really a problem at 7km/h.

Yesterday, investigations correspondent at the Irish Examiner, Conor Ryan, got a tip-off about the whereabouts of Charlie Allen, the leader of the controversial Rodolphus Allen Private Family Trust.

Mr Allen was in an outhouse behind Lotamore House in Tivoli, Cork.

There had been a warrant out for his arrest and, after Mr Ryan confirmed Mr Allen’s whereabouts, Mr Allen was arrested.

He is to appear in the High Court today.

Lotamore was one of the thousands of properties which people have paid to have signed into Mr Allen’s trust.

Mr Ryan writes:

“Today’s hearing will give him the opportunity to explain how he thinks he can help thousands of people defeat their mortgages by moving properties into a trust that shares the ideological language of the freeman of the land movement.”

“This summer, at least 2,000 people believed enough in his strategy to sign their properties into his Rodolphus Allen Private Family Trust. ”

“In August, Mr Allen, a landscape gardener in Kilkenny, already estimated that €2bn of assets had been placed into the trust. ”

“A month later, he threatened receivers, banks and auctioneers with damage claims in excess of €100m if they continued to lay claim to the properties in question. ”

“However, many of the properties that were signed in have been sold despite his actions. “

Eu

Said someone.

In Brussels.

RTÉ reports:

“An EU official has said the rapid rise in property prices in the Dublin area over the past year is not overly concerning.”

“The senior official in Brussels said it is not worrying at this stage that prices are now growing at their fastest rate since 2007.”

“The EU official said a perceived asset bubble developing in Dublin is not a problem, saying said house prices need to recover from the crash.”

Right so.
