Behold: the De Tomaso P72 Coupe – a 60th anniversary offering from the Italian marque paying curvaceous homage to the short-lived De Tomaso P70 of the mid 1960s.

Only 72 of these carbon fibre-bodied, quilted leather-lined presumed track monsters (on account of as-yet unspecified power plants) will be made.

Yours for just over three quarters of a million euro.

At the Crawford Art Gallery at Emmet Place, Cork city

Frank O’Dea, of Balla Bán Art Gallery in Dublin, writes:

“Spotted this recently on a visit to the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork City. Nineteenth century art instruction often included the use of sculptural models as teaching aids for drawing, painting, study of anatomy and sculpture study, known as Drawing Casts to emphasize the study of form and the visual effect that light and shadow had on these forms.

“But I don’t think they meant to paint them literally unless you’re in the Rebel County that is!

“‘Recasting Canova’ is the title of this ongoing exhibition in the Sculpture Galleries of Crawford Art Gallery in Cork and these historic depictions of gods and mortals have formed the basis of their collection since 1819.

“Might be worth checking out if it’s something that tickles your fancy!”

Yesterday, the Public Accounts Committee published its latest periodic report which included a chapter on the National Broadband Plan and its meetings about the same.

In the report, the committee said it was “unacceptable” that significant changes to the National Broadband Plan –  made without a new cost/benefit analysis test being carried out – resulted in escalated costs.

The PAC is recommending that a new cost/benefit analysis test be carried out before the final contract is signed.

It also found the procurement process “may have partly deterred parties interested in tendering for the project from doing so” and has called for the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform to carry out a review of the procurement process.

PAC found…

“As of 28 March 2019, the total expenditure on the NBP since 2013 was €25.4m. The Department [of Communications] informed the committee that the majority of the spend to date had been on consultancy fees.

“The committee was informed that the value-for-money requirement of the NBP was governed by the public procurement process but consultancy fees had risen since 2014.

“The NBP was issued for tender in December 2015. However, the plan has undergone what members considered to be significant changes since it was first explored and these changes have influenced the procurement process.

During a press conference in Wimbledon yesterday, after British tennis player Johanna Konta (top right) lost her quarter final match to Czech Republic’s Barbora Strycova 7-6 6-1, Ms Konta asked a male journalist to stop patronising her (above at 3.30).

On RTÉ’s Morning Ireland earlier, during a sports segment presented by John Murray (top left), in which the above clip was played, Mr Murray spoke with show presenter Maggie Doyle about the exchange…

Maggie Doyle: “It was a bit patronising, John.

John Murray: “Yes… it was… but he did point out that she had something like 33 unforced errors…”

Doyle: “Yeah but the way he said it like, I mean ‘do you not want to go on an win?’ Well, ‘yeah, here I am, sitting, you know, in Wimbledon, of course I want to win’ is what she was kind of saying I think.”

Murray: “So you’re with Johanna?”

Doyle: “Of course I am.”

Murray: “All right, OK. Anyway, the men’s quarter finals…”

New balls.
