“We expect there may be 10 to 15 per cent of people who will refuse the vaccine and just don’t want it, although, they may change their minds if the ability to travel and attend mass events is linked to it…
“…What we really need for this to work fully is to get about 80 per cent of people vaccinated, that’s where you start to hit herd immunity, where the virus just doesn’t have anywhere to go.”

People have asked, was it worth the fuss for coming last? Absolutely. We need to put women & minorities at the table. We need to show anyone can run for any election. We need every party to run candidates in future that want to contribute and that represents society. Thanks all x

This morning.
Via Irish Times Letters:
At long last the Roman Catholic Church has expressed concern about the criminalising of public worship in the Republic (“Catholic archbishop criticises ‘provocative’ law on services”)
The Government does not seem to care that in this respect the country is out of step with most other countries in Europe. At Easter, we had a ludicrous situation that churches in the North were able to celebrate Easter while in the South they were bolted and barred.
Meanwhile…
“To criminalise gathered worship is effectively to criminalise the practice of the Christian religion.”
It is “disproportionate and exceeds the limits of government authority.”

Margaret Buttimer, of Bandon in county Cork, who had been released on bail on condition she comply with public health restrictions, appeared in court earlier without a mask.
Via Irish Examiner:
Ms Buttimer is facing a charge of not wearing a mask at Dunnes Stores, Clonakilty, on February 12. Sgt Paul Kelly said gardaí were awaiting directions on the matter from the DPP.
Sgt Kelly said he wanted to bring to the court’s attention that Ms Buttimer could be further reprimanded for the alleged non-wearing of a mask in SuperValu in Bandon last Monday, with Judge Roberts claiming she could be facing further charges arising out of any possible breach of bail conditions…
…Judge Roberts queried whether Ms Buttimer had previously suggested she may have a medical reason for refusing to wear a mask but she denied this and said:
“I feel it is my freedom is being taken.”
The matter was adjourned until May 4.
