What do you think of this? It was recorded in Jesus & Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, Sligo. We believe it’s the Principal, Sr Mary Kelly… “Perhaps your penance this Lent, could be the penance of wearing a mask.” pic.twitter.com/KNMlo96jUt
Further to the passing by a sub-committee of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council of a proposal to change the name of Orwell Road to ‘Independent Ukraine Road’ ..
“…The proposal might well have some merit but I think that the way it’s been gone about is slightly unfortunate. I think it insinuates that if the residents of Orwell Road don’t want to change the name of the road then somehow they could be perceived as being not in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and I think that’s not how you should do things.
“The residents of Orwell Road unanimously stand with the people of Ukraine in this terrible war, and we are all praying for peace today and hopefully the negotiations in Turkey will bring an end to a terrible conflict.”
Dr Ronan Collins, resident of Orwell Road, Dublin 6.

The United States denied renewed Russian accusations that Washington was operating biowarfare labs in Ukraine, calling the claims “laughable” and suggesting Moscow may be laying the groundwork to use a chemical or biological weapon.
Russia repeated its accusation of several years that the United States is working with Ukrainian laboratories to develop biological weapons. Such assertions in Russian media increased in the run-up to Moscow’s military move into Ukraine and were made as recently as Wednesday by foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
“The Russian accusations are absurd, they are laughable and you know, in the words of my Irish Catholic grandfather, a bunch of malarkey. There’s nothing to it. It’s classic Russian propaganda,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Wednesday.
And it continues to be mystifying how the US Government can issue such emphatic denials about the existence of dangerous biological labs in Ukraine given what Victoria Nuland said yesterday while testifying. Ignoring this makes it disappear domestically, but not in reality. pic.twitter.com/speKmOoMzD

Dublin City Council members voted against the co-option Geraldine Molloy (above) to fill the council seat left vacant by the death of homelessness campaigner Anthony Flynn
City Hall, Dublin 2.
At their March monthly meeting on Monday, Dublin City Councillors voted against a motion to co-opt Geraldine Molloy, a former staff member of Inner City Helping Homeless, to fill the council seat vacated by the death of independent Councillor Anthony Flynn. The Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) charity was wound up last year following multiple allegations of sexual assault against Mr Flynn, the founder and CEO, and his death in August 2021.

Footage of the debate around filling the seat of Anthony Flynn on DCC was put up online last night. Forty minutes long, but full of wild accusations and grandstanding, it’s surprisingly good viewing….
