What you may need to know.

1. In the first official trailer for their upcoming horror-comedy film Studio 666, the Foo Fighters are going to gain a seventh member — that is, if the paranormal demon possessing Dave Grohl’s body and trying to kill his fellow bandmates counts toward the lineup.

2, Directed by BJ McDonnell, Studio 666 takes some creative liberties in the retelling of the rock band’s experience recording their latest record Medicine at Midnight.

3, The trailer finds the Foo Fighters settling into a supposedly haunted mansion in Encino, California, for a change of environment in hopes of creating a stellar tenth studio album.

4. But as the days go by, Grohl’s writer’s block – which is brushed off by Lionel Richie ( yeah you read that right )  and the rest of the band – feelings of unease give way to something much stranger than they had anticipated.

5, From there, Grohl’s demons become less creative and more literal as he’s overtaken by a spirit with a knack for violence. During one recording session, his domineering frontman nature leads to a gory decapitation by way of a shiny gold cymbal, as you do.

6. The film stars Grohl and fellow Foos’  Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee alongside Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman and Jenna Ortega.

The Canadian government is invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time to address the impact of continued protests across the country over Covid-19 health measures.

The Emergencies Act can provide for the use of the military, but may not necessarily lead to that, and Trudeau said the government is not bringing them in.

But it can temporarily suspend citizens’ rights to free movement or assembly. And the government is taking steps to stop financial support of illegal protests.

The headline and the representation of RTÉ’s correspondence with the Public Accounts Committee on the front page of today’s Irish Examiner is incorrect.

The relevant section of the correspondence, included  below, does not state that the RTÉ Player will require investment of tens of millions of euros.

It clearly states that “the level of investment is conservatively estimated to be several million Euro of capital investment as a minimal requirement.”

The tens of millions reference is to the investment of significant capital funding made by linear broadcast services over decades.

Relevant section of RTÉ correspondence with the Public Accounts Committee, dated 9th February states:

“RTÉ’s estimated figure for the required investment needed in the RTÉ Player.

Further product technical scoping and benchmarking will be required to generate specific estimates, but as confirmed by the Director General at the Joint Oireachtas session of 26 January, the level of investment is conservatively estimated to be several million Euro of capital investment as a minimal requirement. In addition, further evolution of the service needs additional specialist skills which will require increased operating expenditure.

On demand and live streaming technology requires extensive investment and infrastructure to deliver parity of service with linear broadcast services, which have been in operation for many decades, with continued investment of significant capital funding to the level of tens of millions.”

Dozens of cars briefly blocked a main highway in Israel for a short while on Monday in protest of coronavirus regulations, causing heavy traffic at the entrance to Jerusalem.

Based off of a similar protest movement in Canada, the convoy of anti-vaccine activists aimed to reach the Knesset, and hung signs on their cars reading “liberty,” “new world order,” “no more restrictions, going back to normal,” “cancel the mask mandate” and “a free nation in our country,” among other slogans.

“I”m here for my children, so that they can have a better world,” one of the protesters explained. “Rights are being taken away from citizens with no real justification, and we need to fight that.” She added, “We are no one’s enemies.”
