What you may need to know:

1. The Star Wars saga is now available for *cough* legal download for the first time.

2. Should go nicely with the 2011 Blu-ray box set, the 2008 re-packaged DVDs, the 2006 limited editions with the unaltered original trilogy, the original 2006 DVD box set and the first widescreen releases from 1994 on VHS (which I still have somewhere, although I can’t play them on anything).

3. The download figures for IV-VI versus I-III should be interesting. The best thing about those prequels was Mr. Plinkett’s reviews.

4. It’s a shame that George Lucas was never schooled in the delicate art of respecting your work. Once it’s out there George, it’s not yours anymore.

5. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in 253 days. So in 254 days we’ll all be b*tching about how it wasn’t as good as Phantom Menace (1999).

6. Broadsheet Prognosis: Enough already. Just release the unaltered originals.

Release Date: Today.

A poster for a debate on same sex marriage which took place in Dublin City University last night

Fluffybiscuits writes:

“Been chatting to a few friends who attended the debate on same sex marriage in DCU last night. What was said to me was that there was a comment made by the No side which appeared to say that they would attack the Yes side through saying the government is trying to change the meaning of gender through the wording of the same sex marriage referendum. Can anyone shed any light on this?”

Anyone?

Around 40 Irish Water protesters ‘occupied’ Dublin City Council offices yesterday.

Some of the protesters attempted to ask DCC Chief Executive Officer Owen Keegan questions about Irish Water – and the DCC’s relationship with Irish Water – but Executive Manager Vincent Norton spoke to them instead.

Mr Norton laid out what the DCC is obliged to do by law.

Darragh writes:

This is a video from a Cork LGBTS choir called “Choral Con Fusion”. They recently wrote, sang and recorded a song for charity called “We Love the Same (A Song for Equality)” with proceeds from single sales  going to the the upcoming marriage equality campaign.
They’ve been trying to get the song out there, but the BAI ruling to do with the SSM referendum means that a lot of radio/tv presenters aren’t willing – perhaps unsurprisingly – to play the song (perhaps if the Iona Institute had some kind of anti-SSM tune out to counteract this one, it’d balance out in the eyes of RTÉ?)…
