Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Professor Jason Leitch
The idea of a normal Christmas is a “fiction” and Scots should prepare for digital celebrations, national clinical director Jason Leitch has said.
The government has insisted that the latest Covid-19 restrictions are having an impact on the spread of the virus.
But Prof Leitch told BBC Scotland there was “absolutely no question” of a “normal” Christmas being allowed.
Measures could be eased if case numbers fall, but Mr Leitch said people should “get their digital Christmas ready”.
Meanwhile…
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the government was making “really tough” decisions and would not “tell people what they want to hear to make it easier in the here and now”.
The approach of Mars is so over.
For the next two months, Saturn and Jupiter will take centre stage in the night sky, drawing closer to earth and appearing closer together. To wit:
…in mid-December, a Great Conjunction will occur — when the two planets will appear only 0.1 degrees apart — just one fifth the angular diameter of the full Moon. And this isn’t just any Great Conjunction — Saturn (left) and Jupiter (right) haven’t been this close since 1623, and won’t be nearly this close again until 2080. This celestial event is quite easy to see — already the two planets are easily visible toward the southwest just after sunset — and already they are remarkably close. Pictured, the astrophotographer and partner eyed the planetary duo above the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Three Peaks of Lavaredo) in the Italian Alps about two weeks ago.

By 10pm on Tuesday night, when the results for all tests came back, 25 out of 27 residents were found to be Covid-19 positive.
The virus has also severely impacted on staff at the facility, with in the region of ten care staff and seven nurses infected.
All have gone into isolation to reduce the further spread of the virus.
As a result, the nursing home is operating with a massively reduced number of staff today.
At present, just one nurse and one health care worker are on duty, along with some ancillary staff at the premises.

Collaged installations by Berlin-based American artist Claire Börsch: fantastical, dreamlike ecosystems summoned up by amorphous swathes of flora, fauna, human figures and gemstones of which she tells Colossal:
I made a series of collages and then later realized that many of the species in the vintage illustrations had already gone extinct. Humanity has wiped out 68% of all our planet’s biodiversity since 1970, so working with vintage illustrations can be very heartbreaking
Energy Orchard – Hard Street
Continuing our series of underrated Irish music since 1960 unearthed by our Golden Discs music competition last week, reader Charger Salmons states the case for 1990s Belfast Celtic rock act Energy Orchard, who were led by the late Bap Kennedy.
Charger says:
“A staple of London’s Irish pub rock scene for years, Energy Orchard were a fabulous live band who never quite matched their early promise thanks to (alleged) terrible management by their record company.
“But on a Saturday night when the Mean Fiddler {North London venue] was jammed and they were on fire there was no-one better. Happy days.”
