A University of California professor is suing his college over a COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying people with natural immunity shouldn’t be required to get the shot.

Aaron Kheriaty, professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine, says he contracted COVID-19 in July 2020. He points to scientific research showing that people infected with COVID-19 develop durable immunity to the virus and argues the university’s vaccine mandate is unfair.

“I feel like I’m being treated unequally,” Kheriaty said. “If my immunity is as good, indeed, very likely better, than that conferred by the vaccine, there doesn’t seem to be any rational basis for discriminating against my form of immunity and requiring me to get a different form of immunity.”

An Israeli study, which was published last week and hasn’t been peer-reviewed, shows uninfected, vaccinated people are around 6 to 13 times more likely to get a future infection than those who are unvaccinated and recovered from COVID-19. The vaccinated group is also 7 to 27 times more likely to develop a symptomatic future infection than the COVID-recovered group. Several other studies also have pointed to the durability of natural COVID-19 immunity.

God-given immunity?

Or Bill Gates immunity?

Only you can decide.

The head of the WHO in Europe has expressed doubts about vaccines’ ability to put an end to the Covid pandemic, as new variants dash hopes of reaching herd immunity.

Faced with the possibility that the virus may be around for many years, health officials must now “anticipate how to gradually adapt our vaccination strategy,” in particular on the question of additional doses, Hans Kluge told reporters.

In May, the WHO director had said “the pandemic will be over once we reach 70% minimum coverage in vaccination”.

Via The Irish Times:

Up to August 31, more than 6.84 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine had been administered, with the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) receiving 14,844 reports of suspected side effects in the same period. Of these, 8,686 related to Pfizer or Moderna mRNA technology vaccines, while adenoviral vector vaccines (AstraZeneca and Janssen) accounted for 6,059 reports.

The HPRA says it received 78 reports of suspected side effects among adolescents aged 12-17 years who had received an mRNA vaccine. The agency is “closely monitoring” any reports related to teenagers and overall the symptoms are consistent with those reported in adults.

There have been 60 reports relating to inflammatory conditions of the heart in people who had received an mRNA vaccine. Of these, 18 were suspected myocarditis, 26 suspected pericarditis and 16 were a combination of the two.

Nine reports of blood clotting combined with low platelets were reported among people who had received the AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines.

Nine reports of a rare immune disorder of the nerves, Guillain-Barré syndrome, have also been received following vaccination with AstraZeneca or Janssen

There have been 86 instances (75 involving an mRNA vaccine) where an individual who had been vaccinated subsequently passed away.

“Many of us are frustrated with the nearly 80 million Americans who are still not vaccinated even though the vaccine is safe, effective and free.

“This is not about freedom, or personal choice. It’s about protecting yourself and those around you — the people you work with, the people you care about, the people you love… We cannot allow these actions to stand in the way of protecting the large majority of Americans who have done their part, who want to get back to life as normal.”

The health secretary told Sky News consent will be sought from parents of 12 to 15-year-olds over COVID jabs as it has been “for decades”, but that if a child is believed to be competent enough to make the decision themselves, they “will prevail”.

His comments suggest most individuals in this age category will be able to give their own consent to receive the COVID-19 vaccine if parents object to the jab.

ITV This Morning has come under fire over an “irresponsible” debate between two guests today.

Beverly Turner and Dr Nighat Arif were on the show, which was hosted by Rochelle Humes and Eamonn Holmes.

The pair were debating getting children vaccinated against Covid when tempers flared.

One tweeted: “Why do you keep inviting on Beverley Turner regarding COVID vaccinations? I absolutely think you need to represent both sides in a debate however she is always SO angry when she talks about her side of the debate, in contrast to the doctor who was very calm.”

“#ThisMorning Why is it the people who bang on about the dangerous side effects of the vaccine seem perfectly happy with the dangerous side effects of the virus?” asked another.

Another chipped in with: “Why does Beverly Turner have to express her views in such an angry and patronising manner?”

A fourth branded the interview “irresponsible”.

Health Products Regularity Authority safety report, August 12. Reports included are those ‘notified to the HPRA on a voluntary basis by healthcare professionals and members of the public’

KN writes:

This is the only available data I can find on fatalities following the vaccination – 82 reported deaths in Ireland up to August 12. Remember this is based on a fraction of actual incidents. Meanwhile, the same report states there were 13,529 reports of suspected side effects up to August 3.

Health Service Executive CEO Paul Reid said

“it’s never too late” to register to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, as he urged those who have not yet received a vaccine to come forward.

“Today I would like to make a very specific and clear call to those who have not yet come forward for vaccination. The first message is very clearly, be assured, vaccinations are working.

“The evidence is extremely strong, in terms of reduced illness, reduced hospitalisations coming through, reduced ICU admissions, and indeed, reduced mortality.”

He said the programme continues at pace, with a priority now to vaccinate those in the 12-15 age group. Mr Reid said that 124,000 people in this age group had signed up so far, with 72,000 having been administered with a first dose.
