Louis Brennan – ‘The Towpath’

A Dub now living in London, Louis releases his album today “The Reductive Power of a Coastal Town”.

He is giving away the whole album for free at bandcamp

Variously described as “future folk”, “dubstep Leonard Cohen” and “pound shop bond themes”.

Fair play, in fairness.

[New South Wales] Fair Trading has received a number of reports of an Irish male going by the name of John and using the unregistered company name Affordable Building Services touting for business throughout the inner Sydney area including North Bondi, Surry Hills and Marrickville.

“Itinerant conmen are ruthless and will often seek out the most vulnerable – the elderly, the infirm or those struggling financially – to siphon off thousands of dollars,” Mr Stowe said.

“They pose as affable tradies, promising home building and maintenance work at unbelievably cheap rates and then demanding scurrilously high deposits. They then either abscond with the deposit or carry out the work to such a poor level it invariably costs the home owner thousands of dollars more to have the work rectified.”

Most men I know are fans of Clare Daly at two levels. First, of course, she is a very attractive woman, especially to men who have moved beyond the blonde bimbo stage, but not in a way that immediately interests younger men – and I know because my male film students don’t respond to her looks, but most of my contemporaries do. Clare is what the French call ‘jolie laide’, and if she were conventionally pretty it would diminish her power to make men of the world pay attention. The key ingredient is the energy she exudes, and that is always sexual at some level.

Eoghan Harris’ thoughts on Clare Daly’s housekeeping skills and typing ability are yet to be revealed.

Exclusively in today’s Herald.

LeixlipxPUSH You’ll recall last night’s post of a group of people pushing a small plane in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, top.

Well, it’s for a charidee called Strange Boat.

Strange Boat aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. It was established by the parents of Éamonn Goggin, a young Co. Galway man whose organs were donated following a road crash in 2006.

From Strange Boat:

“The Irish Air Corps will undertake a very innovative 40 hour charity non-stop marathon, between May 16 – 18, pushing a light aircraft from Baldonnel to Galway to raise awareness for organ donation and support for a national commemorative garden to organ donors. This garden, called Circle of Life, will be located in Quincentennial Park, Salthill, and is being developed by Strange Boat Donor Foundation, in partnership with Galway City Council.”

The push started in Baldonnel at 8pm last night and travelled through the night to Leixlip, Maynooth, Kilcock, Enfield, Clonard, and on to Kinnegad, for around 7am this morning. It then travelled to Miltownpass, Rochfortbridge, Tyrrellspass, Kilbeggan, Horseleap, reaching Moate, aiming to be there for 4pm this afternoon. They then plan to be in Athlone for 5.30pm. From Athlone, through the small villages of Kielty, Cornafulla, Doohan, Ballydangan, they plan to arrive in Ballinasloe at 1am tomorrow morning.

From Ballinasloe, they’ll travel through the night, to arrive in Loughrea about 7am. Then to Craughwell, Derrydonnell Beg, on to Oranmore, arriving at  Galway City approximately 2.30pm. Final destination is Quincentennial Park,  Salthill for 3pm.

Fair play, in fairness.
