A woman employed in I.T.,
Is something we all want to see,
If she puts kids on hold,
Until she’s too old,
She can be a fine employee.

Aisling writes:
“After a disappointing and dreary look at Leinster House last year (but an enjoyable and weird visit to the Masonic hall [Morehampton Road] the year before) is there anywhere that your readers could suggest for the weekend? Somewhere worth nosing about in…anyone?”

Irish Water managing director John Tierney was labelled a “gobshite” at last night’s weekly Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting in Leinster House, which was attended by the Taoiseach.
Kildare North TD Anthony Lawlor made the comments during a heated discussion on water charges, which saw around a dozen TDs criticise the new utility. Tipperary North TD Noel Coonan said he was not going to be associated with such language.Fine Gael TDs complained at the meeting they were getting a generic response from Irish Water when they forwarded concerns from their constituents. “It has the potential to do us a lot of damage, like the medical cards,” a party TD said.
You may recall that Mr Tierney, a former Dublin City Manager, invoked a veto to overrule a Dublin City Council vote 52-50 against the sale of its waste-collection services to Greyhound.
And was forced to apologise after Dublin City Council was accused of mismanaging public funds, following an official audit of the €80million spent on the Poolbeg incinerator project.
Good times.

“The self employed have a taken a hit again. I cannot understand why this government would introduce an 11 per cent Universal Social Charge just for the self employed. I don’t understand what this government have against the self employed.
Why do the self employed pay tay tax at 11 per cent but if you’re in a PAYE job and you”re not taking the risks of the self employed you only have to pay eight per cent. I can’t understand that.”
Independent TD Stephen Donnelly (at 4.50) speaking during the Budget 2015 debate in the Dáil following the government’s decision to introduce a new 8% USC rate for anyone earning more than €70,000 and a new 11% rate for the self-employed earning more than €100,000.

“Over the past few months, some rocky starts, and heated hall meetings, a James Street & Districts Residents Association has been set up covering the area from James St Hospital Luas stop towards the city as far as the Guinness Brewery. We’re registered and all official like with Dublin City Council. We’re even registered with the new Public Participation Network . Something all residents associations should be doing, I’m told.
Our main tasks, without giving you a list as long as my arm, are anti-social behaviour in the area, change of purpose of some local buildings, and the standard clean up in the area, something we want to get the local kids involved in.We’d like to ask if any of your designer, creative types among your readers would help us out by designing a ‘James Street And Districts Residents Association’ logo…
It would go on hi-vis vests for clean up days, headed paper in our dealings with Dublin City Council and whomever else we need to correspond with. It would be a great boost to all of us in our fledgling RA. It’s a blank sheet brief, just one thing though… nothing Guinness related please :)”

RUN!
RTÉ’s managing director of Radio Jim Jennings
“There is a market out there for radio talent. Your point that we are overpaying is not true, I don’t agree with it,” he said in response to Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan [during yesterday’s Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Transport and Sport]. “If we were, we would have paid the money to keep Pat Kenny on Radio 1, but we didn’t.”
Mr Jennings said that contrary to popular perceptions, six of the top 10 paid radio broadcasters were in the commercial sector rather than RTÉ…
Really?
Name those six anyone?
