Gummidge – noise-rock from Galway

What you may need to know…

01. Grubby, gritty noise-rock foolishness is the order of the day for Gummidge, a trio from Gallimh, formed in 2010. You may remember them.

02. Releasing debut album Sick Again in 2012, the band has kept the home fires burning with work on Heartbreakers, a second LP released earlier this month and launched with a Galway gig.

03. Streaming above, available from the band’s Bandcamp. No formal physical release, but all digital purchases to receive liner notes in a card posted with each order.

04. Launching the new album in Dublin, at the Jigsaw arts space, next week on the 5th, with support from Ten Past Seven, 1, and Mercurius Forebrain.

Verdict: Angular, awkward, and noisy as ever. Grand job.

TXFM is going off air for good [today].

Back in March, it was announced that the station’s owners did not renew the licence for the station and it would cease at the end of October. Wednesday, the 26th, to be precise I finished my show in June.

One of TXFM’s remaining daytime presenters Claire Beck is a huge John Grant fan, so much so she played Queen Of Denmark, live in full as her album pick this week as part of the station’s closing programming.

[Yesterday] though, she was surprised live on air when JG walked in to the studio unannounced and wished her well with some flowers. The pair then had a lovely chat (after the initial shock).

Mmmf.

Iceland women left work on Monday at 2.38pm, 14 per cent early to refeect the country’s  gender pay gap.  If we did this in Ireland (please!) what time would we have to leave work?

Anyone?

UPDATE:

Tom Watts, at Expertmarket, writes:

Just getting in touch as I see you have covered the story broken by the NY Times and The Independent about the gender pay gap in Iceland and yesterday’s walk-out by female employees.

I noticed that you wanted to know what time Irish women would walk out of work and as we provided the stats for the original stories in both the NYT and Independent, I thought you might like to include them too, to give your readers a source and provide them with more information…

…The Irish GPG is 14.40%, so women stop getting paid on November 7th and could leave work at 15:51…

My sister sent me this video today that was produced, shot and edited by my nephew, Oisin O’Connell. It’s really poignant. I wonder if you guys could post it and help bring attention to a really worthy cause.

We, at DCU MPS, are absolutely delighted to announce that the Charity for the DCUtv 24-Hour Broadcast will be The Peter McVerry Trust.  Our Committee unanimously voted in The Peter McVerry Trust, after it was suggested to us by our Deputy Events Officer, Laura, who, herself, battled with homelessness for two years when she was only a child. She, of all people, knows the hardships of homelessness and how hard it is to deal with, which is why we are so looking forward to contributing to such a wonderful cause….
