A documentary featuring Jon Hynes and Sean Cahill’s 1,500km and 39-day kayak around Ireland last summer.

Cian Walsh writes:

“Broadsheet published a link last summer as Jon and Sean were attempting to paddle around Ireland starting from the Old Head of Kinsale.”

“They returned to the Old Head 39 days later, having survived huge Atlantic swells and covered in blisters. The trip was self-supported so Jon and Sean carried everything, including food and camping gear, in their kayaks.”

Fair play in fairness.

My bike was stolen yesterday from outside my house in Glasnevin, Dublin. I had left it for about 20 seconds while I opened the garage and it was gone, I ran after the guy but he was on a bike, and I was not.

It was a Dawes Discovery 101 Men’s Hyrbid which was white when I bought it (2 1/2 years ago) but I had covered it in silver duct tape, green spray paint, black and white checkered tape and green, black, red and yellow electrical tape – to try and deter thieves. It also had an Abus U lock attached to it, a black rack, one mudguard (spray painted teal) on the back wheel, and some purple duct tape covering a tear on the seat. It wasn’t the most inconspicuous bike to steal by any means.

I’ve attached a photo of what it looked like when it was stolen (top) and when I bought it (above), it could be somewhere between the two now. I mostly want to get it back so that the bike thieves don’t win. Any help you could give me would be fantastic.

Anyone?

Election posters during the 2014 local and European elections in Newbridge, Co. Kildare

Fine Gael hates Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin. Fianna Fáil hates everyone but Fine Gael. Sinn Féin claims never to have hated anyone. The Social Democrats are rotating who they hate. Labour hates the position it is in, and everyone hates Michael Lowry (for now). I have a headache.

The Dublin 7 ‘gentrification’ continues.

Via Rob Doyle in today’s Guardian:

In the aftermath of the culturally barren Celtic Tiger years, Ireland is said to be undergoing something of a literary rebirth. It’s now harder than ever to swing a cat in Dublin without skulling a handful of writers and dole-queue poets. Debut novels and short story collections are launched with pummelling frequency. Stoneybatter has become a hub of this renaissance.

Moynes? Fight!

A word to the hungry: Stoneybatter’s tastiest almond croissants are found in the Green Door Bakery on Manor Street – but only if you get there early enough, which I have managed on no more than two occasions. A few doors down is a real gem, still largely unheralded: the pleasant and unpretentious Biscotti Caffe, which offers what is hands down Dublin’s most satisfying full Irish breakfast (available all day, too).
