Last night.

Pat Sweeney’s children were returned to their mother following outcry over their removal from their father’s home by An Garda Síochána at 3.30am on Saturday. It is understood the children were the subject of a court order to be returned to their mother, who lives in France.

Mr Sweeney had last month filmed officers removing parishioners from a local church. He is shown at top (video) in Longford Garda Station.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin announcing the easing of Covid restrictions last night

Fluffybiscuits writes:

Inter county travel is to be lifted from May 10. When Northern Ireland returns to normal along with rest of UK, does the fact we have no border not mean the government’s hands here are forced to match those measures? Monitoring compliance for people traversing the border would be impossible

The Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

This afternoon.

In a joint statement, Pfizer and BioNTech said they had submitted a request with the Amsterdam-based EMA to expand the use of their jab to include “adolescents 12 to 15 years of age”.

Ugur Sahin, co-founder and CEO of Germany’s BioNTech, yesterday said the jab could be available for those age groups from June if EU approval is granted.

Today’s move comes after Phase 3 trial data showed that the vaccine provided “robust antibody responses” and was 100% effective in warding off the disease among those aged 12 to 15.

The vaccine also was generally well tolerated,” the statement added.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly at Government Buildings yesterday

This morning.

RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said analysis is being done on whether those aged in their 40s could potentially get vaccinated at the same time as those in their 50s, who will have to wait for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“What we are thinking through is, in several weeks’ time, is there an option to begin vaccinating for example the 40-49 cohort in parallel [to the 50 to 59 year olds]?” he said.

The Department of Health is “running the numbers” today and over the weekend. Mr Donnelly said another “really positive thing” is the opening of the vaccination portal for those aged 50-59 next week .
