For the last week, Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) has been rising before dawn in the northern sky and some have made the most of the morning display. To wit:

Up before sunrise, the featured photographer was able to capture in dramatic fashion one of the few comets visible to the unaided eye this century, an inner-Solar System intruder that might become known as the Great Comet of 2020. The resulting video details Comet NEOWISE from Italy rising over the Adriatic Sea. The time-lapse video combines over 240 images taken over 30 minutes. The comet is seen rising through a foreground of bright and undulating noctilucent clouds, and before a background of distant stars. Comet NEOWISE has remained unexpectedly bright, so far, with its ion and dust tails found to emanate from a nucleus spanning about five kilometres. Fortunately, starting tonight, northern observers with a clear and dark northwestern horizon should be able to see the sun-reflecting interplanetary snowball just after sunset.

Word to the NEOWISE.

Behold: the 70m Codecasa Jet 2020 Yacht – ‘inspired’ by aviation design and looking like the offspring of cruise ship and a Jumbo jet.

Along with accommodation for ten guests, there’s a 20x10m sundeck, swimming pool, indoor/outdoor gym, sea-level ‘beach club’, an owner’s suite taking up the entire bow of the main deck, a helipad and a double tender area with room for all manner of seafaring toys.

A concept up to now, actual construction is expected to start later this year.

If you’re in the market, you won’t be asking the price.

A ‘visual excavation’ of Western history by British photographer Drew Gardner wherein descendants of historically significant people pose,  recreating  famous portraits of their ancestor.

But there’s more going here than mock-ups. The photograph of Shannon LaNier (top pic) is especially significant.

He’s the sixth-great grandson of Jefferson and Sally Hemmings, who the third U.S. president enslaved and forced to bear his children, a story that’s long been left out of historical narratives.
