Some of the thirty ‘never-before-seen’ portraits of world leaders painted by former president George W. Bush currently on display at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Texas as part of an exhibition entitled ‘The Art Of Leadership: A President’s Personal Diplomacy’. The former President explains:

‘I place a high priority on personal diplomacy. getting to know a fellow world leader’s personality, character, and concerns made it easier to find common ground and deal with contentious issues. that was a lesson i had picked up from dad, who was one of the great practitioners of personal diplomacy.‘

Above: Tony Blair, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia,  George Bush Sr,  Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan and Vladimir Putin.

George W. has painted on a daily basis since leaving office.

He’s very proud of his work. See?

Early One Morning – a giant globe made from matchsticks by artist Andy Yoder, who spent two years hand-painting individual matches, gluing each one to a foam, cardboard and plywood sphere then finally spraying the whole thing with flame retardant (come on now. He’s not a total eejit).

The piece goes on display this summer at the PULSE New York Contemporary Art Fair.

A couple of years ago, a Korean photographer claimed to have taken a multiple exposure shot of aircraft taking off from Hannover-Langenhagen Airport.

That image turned out to be fake, but the one above from photographer Michael Kelly appears to be the real deal.

Over 400 photos were taken over the course of a day and combined into a single image with some minor liberties taken with the the positioning of certain planes to aid with the composition.
