The book, published by Thames and Hudson will be released mid November.

assasin_1An incredibly contemporary-looking and rather chilling colourised photo of the would-be assassin Lewis Powell following his arrest in 1865.

Powell – who conspired with John Wilkes Booth to kill President Lincoln – attempted to kill Secretary of State William H. Seward, which he failed to do, despite his brutal best efforts.

From a series of recently colourised US Civil War era photographs.
