Until now.

“You all carry a heavy burden on your shoulders, and you do not need me to tell you that the eyes and hopes of the world are upon you to act with all dispatch, and decisively because time has quite literally run out.”

“The recent IPCC [UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report gave us a clear diagnosis of the scale of the problem. What we will do with a growing global population, creating ever increasing demand on the planet’s finite resources.

“As we tackle this crisis, our efforts cannot be a series of independent initiatives running in parallel, the scale and scope of the threat we face a call for a global systems level solution based on radically transforming our current fossil fuel based economy to one that is genuinely renewable and sustainable.

“So there’s going to be my plea today is for countries to come together to create the environment that enables every sector of industry to take the action required.”

“Here we need a vast military style campaign to marshal the strength of the global private sector with trillions at his disposal, far beyond global GDP, and with the greatest respect, beyond even the governments of the world’s leaders.”

Via Eilish O’Regan in the Irish Independent:

It’s a tempting prospect. But could a speedy roll-out of Covid-19 booster shots be the key to avoiding a return of restrictions this winter and saving Christmas?

It takes just one booster jab this time around to reboot the defences of a fully vaccinated person in only two weeks.

Boosters could potentially do a lot of the heavy lifting. But how far across the population do you go with the offer of a booster? It’s a dilemma that will not go away.

It’s for your own elf.

The Ballyboyz – Balloween

And now for something completely brilliant.

Take it away, lads:

“The Ballyboyz stay nostalgic yet cold this Winter with their new track BALLOWEEN. The tune showcases the two brothers swapping verses over a Thriller beat that just sticks. BALLOWEEN music video creates an eerie suspense throughout the watch.

“The BallyBoyz bawl out in true hip-hop fashion paying tribute to the movie culture and its association with rap music throughout the ages. Happy Balloween!!”

The film was directed by Dee The Antisocial and the music was written and performed by Spaceman Steve and Dee.

Beat by DJ Green.

Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe and former Labour Party leader Ruairi Quinn greet the United States Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen.

Ms Yellen gave keynote address at an event hosted by the Institute for International and European Affairs, telling the assembled:

“I think we have agreed that 15% is the global minimum tax. Now, of course, individual countries may choose themselves to establish a higher tax, but I expect many countries to adopt a 15% tax.

“It works for many countries. I don’t think that’s something that’s going to be reconsidered as a global minimum.”

Icelandic midfielder Emil Palsson collapsed during a football game in Norway’s second division Monday evening after suffering a cardiac arrest, his football club Sogndal said.

“Emil Palsson had a cardiac arrest in the 12th minute of play. Palsson was successfully resuscitated, and then flown to Haukeland Hospital for further examination and treatment,” club Sogndal Fotball said in a statement.

In June, a similar event occurred when Denmark’s Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed from a cardiac arrest during his country’s opening Euro 2020 game against Finland.

Paddy Cosgrave on stage in Lisbon

Yesterday evening.

Lisbon, Portugal.

Via Independent.ie:

WEB Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave invited Village Magazine editor Michael Smith along with Chay Bowes and John Tighe who were involved in publishing the story behind the magazine cover onto the stage and asked the crowd in the vast Altice Arena, which included senior Portuguese government officials and global technology chiefs, to give the men a round of applause.

The original article in the Village in 2020 triggered a criminal investigation into the now Tánaiste’s leaking of a document in April 2019 related to negotiations for a new General Practitioner contract.

Mr Cosgrave made the intervention as a precursor to the opening night’s main event, an interview with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.
