What you may need to know:

1. It’s the Oscars, stupid.

2. The ceremony is back in the Dolby Theater which has hosted the event since 2002. It was originally the Kodak Theater but selfies and smartphones put paid to Eastman Kodak. The venue was purposefully designed with the Oscars in mind and seats 3200 egos.

3. Irish made Song of the Sea (2014) and Bogaloo Graham (2014) in the nominations house.

4. Neil Patrick Harris (top) is hosting. He has carved out bit of a niche for himself in this regard. The 2013 Tony’s was his best turn so far. But who is the Irish guy making the introductions?

I know you don’t normally do this yesterday my friend (Christina) brought her dog into work with her on Mountjoy Street [Dublin 7] to do a bit of catch up and Molly (her black and white Poodle cross) got out and is missing. She is micro-chipped but the thing is she doesn’t know the area and she could be anywhere. We are going to put up posters up this afternoon, and I would be grateful if you could share this, as you can see she is very small and cute…

Scenes from today’s protest in Dublin against the imprisonment of five Irish Water protesters for contempt of court earlier this week.

The demonstrators gathered outside the Central Bank on Dame Street before they marched to Mountjoy Prison where several speeches were made – including one by Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy.

Those gathered were told that two jailed protesters – Derek Byrne and Paul Moore – have been refusing food since yesterday.

The Irish Times reported the number of people outside Mountjoy amounted to ‘up to 10,000’, while RTE reported the figure to be ‘over 5,000’.

Meanwhile, in Castlebar, Co. Mayo – where the Fine Gael National Conference is being held – a similar protest took place…
