Mc Nulty’s decision means the Government will now lose the by-election and its majority in the Seanad
— Páraic Gallagher (@paraicgallagher) September 30, 2014
This just in.
I have informed the Taoiseach that under the circumstances, I am withdrawing my name and asking the Members of the Oireachtas not to vote for me in the upcoming Seanad bye-election. I would like to thank the many members of the Oireachtas who already expressed their support for me.
I am taking this decision because I believe that to contest the election would be an ongoing distraction from the critical work of Government which is to secure Ireland’s recovery through job creation and increased investment. I believe the Government’s economic plan is working and the country is now moving in the right direction. This is what all members of Government should be focussed on at all times.
It was my hope, if elected, to support the Government’s work in this regard as a member of the Oireachtas and now it is my intention to seek a Party nomination to contest the next General Election.
A statement from Imposed FG senatorial nominee – and briefly IMMA board member – John McNulty (top with Enda Kenny) this afternoon.

Deputy John Lyons called out the Vintners Federation of Ireland AND the Licensed Vintners Association on the price of a pint in Dublin city centre in an Oireachtas Committee meeting earlier.
Dónal O’Keeffe of the LVA claims there are pints in Dublin available for a splutterful €3.50.
Deputy Lyons ain’t buying it (were it indeed available, anyone?).

Car engine-dwelling Bosca.
Three legs and a dream.
Dublin SPCA writes:
“We have a very special kitten called Bosca who is looking for a family to adopt her. She has been through an awful lot in her young life. She was found in a car engine on the Tallaght by-pass. She must have been in there for some time. Her leg was badly injured so she had to have it removed as you can see from her picture (above). She is a quiet little girl so will be best suited to a calm house where she will get lots of attention. Bosca has been fostered by a staff member so is not currently based at the shelter. If you would like to meet her , please email the Cattery – cattery@dspca.ie and we will get in touch . Thank you…”

What you may need to know:
1. Historical thriller about pioneering British computer scientist Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch), a key figure in cracking the Nazis’ Enigma code that helped the Allies win World War II.
2. To show their gratitude, the British Government prosecuted Turing for homosexuality in 1952. He elected to undergo chemical castration in order to avoid a custodial sentence and died in 1954. You’re welcome.
3. Looks like Cumberbatch’s Turing has all the natural charm and charisma of Cumberbatch’s Sherlock.
4. Mark Strong is consistently better than the material he’s given.
5. Allen Leech takes a well-deserved break from pig-fretting on Downton Abbey.
6. Broadsheet Prognosis: Cracking.

Five year old Iris Grace , who has autism, only started painting last year but her impressionistic style has already been likened to the work of Monet. Her mum, Arabella Carter-Johnson sez:
I make up some cups of very watery paints, she chooses which one she would like to use and gets me to make more when she needs it and she mixes her own colours from mug to mug. Her autism has created a style of painting which I have never seen in a child of her age, she has an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other. Not only does painting lift Iris’s mood and help her engage with the world around her, but it also helps raise awareness of autism…”When you are a parent or a teacher of a child with autism and you are trying to interact with them you are constantly looking for ways to find that key that will allow you into their world,” says Iris’s mom. “For me seeing Iris’ love of painting was just that, a precious key.
