Dublin (top) and Breifne Earley

Oh.

The one 60km north of Adelaide, Australia silly.

Breifne Earley writes:

I am 33 years originally from Leitrim, and in late 2010 I weighed twenty stone, was bitterly unhappy in my professional life, single with no prospects and came to the point of considering taking my own life.
I made a different decision during that time to change my life around and with the help of a bucket list, my personal challenge ten, I lost 25 kgs, learned to swim and cook, completed a marathon, triathlons, cycled around New Zealand and countless other sporting events and went on fifty blind dates during the year.
Four years later, as an ambassador for Cycle Against Suicide, I’m six months into a 30,000km cycle around the entire planet to try to raise awareness of suicide prevention, mental health and depression. I have been giving talks in schools and have been featured in numerous media outlets along the route so far. I’m hoping that my story will be an example to other vulnerable people that there is an option, that live can be lived and enjoyed again regardless of how dark the situation might be.
Whether it’s financial issues, professional dissatisfaction, body issues, relationship breakdown or any other of a multitude of issues which causes this dilemma to raise it’s ugly head, Suicide remains a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
I am currently in Adelaide, South Australia after visiting Dublin and after pedalling across 20 countries in Europe, the Indian Sub Continent, South East Asia and from Perth to Adelaide. Over the next six months I will complete the circumnavigation through the remainder of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Mexico, Spain, France, UK and Ireland.
To help make this a reality I have been shortlisted for a grant towards the remaining costs of this trip, specifically spare parts and flights, from the Version 1 Community Trust and require votes to secure first place and the accompanying grant. I am currently leading the competition but by a very ‘slim’ margin….”

Michelle Mulherin with Enda Kenny  at this year’s  Fine Gael think-in

You may be aware of the petrol stretching (sneakily adding kerosene to petrol before selling it) crisis in Mayo.

Yes.

CRISIS.

The Minister will agree that I have described a crisis situation. Confidence must be restored. People are unsure where to buy fuel even though there are reputable dealers. It is not good for business in general. Petrol stations send returns to Revenue every month stating where they source their petrol supplies. What is the Customs and Excise doing about the situation which has been ongoing for a couple of months? If it is a resources problem I ask that it be nailed and resources injected into the service, including the drafting of staff from elsewhere. We cannot ignore the apparent 70% of people who are neither covered by their insurance nor by warranty. I ask what can be done for them. I am aware of people who are unable to afford the several thousand euro to buy a new vehicle and many have been left without the use of a vehicle. The case is similar for new vehicles.
I have attended many public meetings in my area. The main agitators who are throwing oil on the fire are Sinn Féin members but not one Sinn Féin person attended a meeting of 400 people. It begs the question whether Sinn Féin condones the practice. I ask if it could be intrinsically associated with the fact that the IRA has been oft associated with fuel laundering. We know of the very close ties of Sinn Féin with the IRA. I wondered with great interest on the night whether it is condoning what is going on….”

The Mayo News can confirm that John Sheahan, Chairman of Mayo Sinn Féin, was in fact in attendance at the public meeting in Swinford. Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday (Monday), he said that Ms Mulherin had made no reference to Sinn Féin during that meeting.

A stop motion timelapse from filmmaker Jeff Frost combining 300,000 photographs taken over the last two years: from riots and decomposing roadkill to optical illusions painted by himself inside abandoned buildings. The film – vaguely intended as an exploration of ‘creation and destruction’ – was made without graphics or visual effects.

It’s quite the visual treat and, if you can spare 12 minutes, well worth watching right to the end.

Bonkers and very sweet house arrest prankage.
