Foster conceived the project last year in the course of another commission. Sez he:

“While running through all the images that were shot I would find myself laughing out loud at how great the expressions were that some of the dogs had while licking in studio. The best way to describe it would be an ‘a-ha’ moment, I just kept thinking to myself, ‘this would be a great book!’”

pearseSinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty spoke during the second stage of the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2013 just before noon today, in which he revealed Sinn Féin have received an anonymous copy of secret recordings involving senior Anglo Irish Bank officials.

This is what he said in relation to the matter:

Pearse Doherty: “Minister, I think in the interest of full public disclosure as a public representative, I think it’s important at this point to make a statement in relation to the Anglo Tapes. Within the last number of weeks, Sinn Féin was anonymously sent a copy of secret recordings, involving senior Anglo officials at Anglo Irish Bank. The majority of these recordings are not currently in the public domain and cover a period between February and September 2008. On the advice of senior counsel, we have taken the decision not to release the tapes at this time. I have made them available to the Garda Commissioner [Martin Callinan] and to the Governor of the Central Bank [Patick Honohan]. And I have personally hand delivered them to Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park and to the Governor of the Central Bank’s office this morning. We have also retained a copy of these tapes with my solicitor with a view of publishing them at a future date, as a publication of these secret conversations are in the public interest. The Government must move now speedily to the establishment of a banking inquiry. There is public demand for truth, people want to know what was going on within the banks. And the contact between senior bankers and the Fianna Fáil government in the run-up to the guarantee..”

Ceann Comhairle: “Deputy, sorry…Deputy Doherty [rings bell]”

Doherty: “It is always…”

Ceann Comhairle: “Could I ask you deputy to move..”

Speak over each other.

Doherty:It has always been my view that the Fine Gael government had more information in relation to the bank, prior to the guarantee, than they have previously disclosed. I move the adjournment on this.”

Ceann Comhairle: “Go raibh maith agat. And, eh, we’ll proceed with this debate later on. And we’re going to proceed now with Leader’s Questions.”

ITV Sports last night.

Adrian Chiles: “Martin, the question on everyone’s lips, why choose Roy to work with?”

Martin O’Neill: “I’ve asked myself that many a time in the last couple [of days] or forty eight hours, but he’s coming with me! Personally speaking, it will be great for me, but more importantly it will be great for The Republic Of Ireland.”

Chiles: “Roy?”

Keane:
“Fantastic news, delighted obviously, honoured that Martin’s asked me to come and help with the team. Fully excited – I mightn’t look it, but I am! And looking forward to working with the players in trying to get to the Euros.”

Chiles:
“It’s a Yin and Yang – I don’t know who’s a Yin and who’s a Yang – but it’s a marriage made in heaven – possibly?”

O’Neill:
“Well, I’m the bad cop and I think he’s the bad, bad cop! But I think we’re excited by it, it looks as if we’ve got something to go with, to go forward with – looking forward to it greatly!”

Obviously there has been some criticism of my outburst, I’ve not been universally applauded as a cross between Jack Sparrow and Spartacus (which is what I’m going for) but they’ve been oddly personal and I think irrelevant to the argument. I try not to read about myself as the mean stuff is hurtful and the good stuff hard to believe, but my mates always give me the gist of what’s going on, the bastards. Some people say I’m a hypocrite because I’ve got money now. When I was poor and I complained about inequality people said I was bitter, now I’m rich and I complain about inequality they say I’m a hypocrite. I’m beginning to think they just don’t want inequality on the agenda because it is a real problem that needs to be addressed.”

“It’s easy to attack me, I’m a right twerp, I’m a junkie and a cheeky monkey, I accept it, but that doesn’t detract from the incontrovertible fact that we are living in a time of huge economic disparity and confronting ecological disaster. This disparity has always been, in cultures since expired, a warning sign of end of days. In Rome, Egypt and Easter Island the incubated ruling elites, who had forgotten that we are one interconnected people, destroyed their societies by not sharing. That is what’s happening now, regardless of what you think of my hair or me using long words, the facts are the facts and the problem is the problem. Don’t be distracted.

I think these columnist fellas who give me aggro for not devising a solution or for using long words are just being territorial. When they say “long words” they mean “their words” like I’m a monkey who got in their Mum’s dressing up box or a hooligan in policeman’s helmet.”

“As I said to Paxman at the time “I can’t conjure up a global Utopia right now in this hotel room”. Obviously that’s not my job and it doesn’t need to be, we have brilliant thinkers and organisations and no one needs to cook up an egalitarian Shangri-La on their todd; we can all do it together.”

“If we all collude and collaborate together we can design a new system that makes the current one obsolete. The reality is there are alternatives. That is the terrifying truth that the media, government and big business work so hard to conceal. Even the outlet that printed this will tomorrow print a couple of columns saying what a naïve wanker I am, or try to find ways that I’ve fucked up. Well I am naïve and I have fucked up but I tell you something else. I believe in change. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty because my hands are dirty already. I don’t mind giving my life to this because I’m only alive because of the compassion and love of others. Men and women strong enough to defy this system and live according to higher laws. This is a journey we can all go on together, all of us. We can include everyone and fear no one. A system that serves the planet and the people. I’d vote for that.”

moped(A Google Street view outside Bellamy’s, Ballsbridge, Dublin)

Ray G writes:

This morning at 9.40  I witnessed a jeep and trailer hit a girl on a purple moped in Ballsbridge, Dublin at Bellamy’s pub. The driver took off without stopping. I followed him and caught up with him and he agreed to go back to the scene…But he never did.

By chance 29 mins later he passed me in traffic so I got his reg.. I passed my contact to this girl I think her name was Caroline but have no contact details for her… Do you know this girl ? If you do please ask her to contact me [below] so I can pass on the Reg of this jeep… She was very lucky to be unharmed but the driver of jeep clearly committed a hit and run and when told didn’t come back to see if she was OK.

Anyone?
