Youtuber naturebatslast plays his dog Cecil several recordings of wolves howling. Cecil responds appropriately.

Wolves have a far more sophisticated range of vocalisations that domestic dogs, so – as one Redditor puts it – Cecil’s response could be something akin to George Costanza’s dismissive ‘yadda, yadda, yadda’.

In the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar yesterday for a screening of the ironically-titled documentary Amazing Azerbaijan (2012) were from left: Liz Mermin (director), Aisling Ahmed and Rasul Jafarov.

The documentary (extracts above) takes a hard look at this oil rich/human rights poor country, ranked 156th out of 179 countries in Reporters Without Borders’  Press Freedom index.

Rasul is the Chairman of Human Rights Club Azerbaijan and the ‘Art for Democracy campaign’ and is in Ireland to discuss how the International community can provide help with these issues in the run up to the country’s upcoming presidential elections.

Bruno Imbrizi, a visual developer, has created a wonderful, interactive, live 3D map of the London underground. He achieved all this by combining the real time data from Transport for London with Freedom of Information requests for the depth of tube lines and London Underground Station locations.

GO HERE: Mind the Gap

Twirl the map around, sit back and just watch the flow of the trains through the city.

merlot1

Merlot,

Found hobbling in the grounds of a restaurant in Glasson, Co. Westmeath.

His left front paw had been severely injured and “some of the pads were missing leaving the bone exposed”.

The injury was so severe that it was thought that Merlot would have to have his leg amputated.

But it was decided to try a course of intense treatment in an effort to save the leg.

It worked!

Carmel Murray of the ISPCA writes:

Merlot has received great care at the ISPCA National Animal Centre with bandage changes every second day. He has been a model patient and, despite all he has been through, he continues to be a very affectionate little fellow. The Vet and staff are very pleased that his wound has healed so well but he will now need physiotherapy to regain to maximise the movement in the leg.
When fully recovered, Merlot will be available for adoption and will be seeking a home where he can live inside the majority of the time.

Anyone?
