Vogue Williams tackled the subject of “radical extremists”.
In her column, she wrote:
Another approach was suggested by a Muslim former police chief Tarique Ghaffur, who said thousands of radical extremists must be locked up in new internment camps to protect Britain.
There are up to 3,000 extremists living in the UK – far too many to keep a close eye on.
This is something that should be decided by the people, but I certainly agree with it. The only way to stop these senseless attacks is to put any potential threats away.
I know it didn’t work with the internment of IRA members in Northern Ireland when 2,000 alleged paramilitaries were held without trial in makeshift camps.
But in today’s case the terrorists cannot be negotiated with. They want to ruin the western world and they will stop at nothing to do this, so we need to have the same approach with them.
Of the 3,000 extremists living in the UK, 400 fought for Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. MI5 has identified 23,000 jihadis in the UK in recent years but of them 3,000 are still considered a threat. We can no longer sit around and do nothing.

We should not call her [Vogue Williams an idiot. We should calmly point out that her views are illogical, totalitarian and profoundly sinister. Her column should be considered alongside the right-wing provocations of Ukip and Breitbart media.
The word “police state” is slung around too liberally in online discourse, but locking up suspects without trial surely constitutes one huge step in that direction. That is what Williams is proposing.

David Hurley, in the Limerick Leader, reports:
A Limerick resident is being questioned by gardai after the discovery of identification documents at his home which were in the name of one of the London terror attackers [Rachid Redouane].
The Limerick Leader has learned the Moroccan national was arrested at a property in the city on Monday night on foot of information received from UK Police.
It is understood the documents were located during searches of the man’s apartment following his arrest.
He is being questioned at a garda station in the city by detectives attached to the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) on suspicion of using forged documents.

Windows were broken at the Masjid Maryam mosque in Galway.

Imam Ibrahim Noonan, of the mosque, spoke to Áine Lawlor on RTÉ’s News at One.
During the interview, Mr Noonan said:
“It was [a really frightening event] because when the incident took place, we were actually in the middle of the prayers. I was leading the prayers, so we were actually engrossed within the prayers then suddenly we heard a massive loud bang and I continued to pray, I didn’t stop the prayers but you can imagine everybody, including myself, were probably having anxiety, about what was going on.
“So when we completed the prayer, we noticed our windows were being smashed, double-glazed windows so the stones went through those windows, and some of our young men ran outside, we told the ladies and others to remain within. And we found out, there were men, young men, about 20, running away from the mosque.
“And then we realised that they were attacking the mosque. And the sad thing is, they attacked the mosque knowing that we were praying. That was the sad thing about it, they knew that, they’re obviously watching us and whilst they were in the prayer, they decided to attack the mosque with stones.
“We’ve had incidents in the past where youths would come along and vandalise and be naughty as such. But this is definitely, in my opinion, an attack based upon what happened in Manchester and London.”
