This morning.

We knew this day would come.

Via RTÉ:

The Government is continuing to work on legislation to allow people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to eat and drink inside restaurants and bars.

A bill to amend the 1947 Public Health Act is set to go before the Dáil and Seanad next week.

It is understood that 26 July, rather than 19 July, is viewed as a realistic date to reopen indoor hospitality under the proposed new system.

The measures in the bill would effectively expire once the population was vaccinated.

The Government is hoping there will be all-party agreement on the bill to get sectors opened in accordance with public health advice.

Seems perfectly legal and sensible.

FIGHT!

Camden Street, Dublin 8.

Keavan’s Port.

Weatherspoon’s instant Irish pub.

The carpetbagging British pub behemoth paid €6 mililon to purchase the property and invested a further €27.4million developing the site, which has an adjoining 89-bedroom hotel and an untold number of massive tellies. Some of the brickwork is said to date back to 2019.

They come over here.

Who the light ale is Keavean, anyway?

Hic.

Mansion House, Dublin 2.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin accompanied by Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and the Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland visit a display of items to mark the 100th anniversary of talks that would lead to the end of the War of Independence, including a typescript memorandum (above) with the proposed terms that came into effect on 11 July 1921.

What the UN and EU flags are doing there – other than demonstrating a dependence – is anyone’s guess.

Fight!

Micheál Martin said the current tax breaks have to be kept in place to provide social housing for families through leasing properties from these funds.

He said that if the tap was turned off immediately then 2,400 families would lose out on getting a home this year.

Mr Martin added that the future model will focus on direct building, but he said: “The reality is we need more houses.”

He said there would be a move to a new system where the State would ultimately own leased properties but this cannot happen immediately.
