Rescue foal Ziggy, in Laragh, Co Wicklow

‘sup?

Tracey writes:

On Saturday 27th February a pony was seen loose on Maoilin Hill, near Laragh [Co Wicklow]. Upon inspection it turned out that it was a foal presumed born late last year, maybe August /September.

But we were unable to get near him as he seems to not have been handled before, so we left out hay and feed in a hope that we could get its trust over a few days and catch it later, but sadly the foal got a fright and went off into the forest where we lost sight of him.

6 days later and a lot of lost sleep, he was seen again.

So I put together a group of people and two very quiet horses that he would follow and managed to get him to a yard where we could then get him in to a stable, which is where he is now.

We have named him Ziggy. We could really do with getting him a forever home, but failing that we would be interested in a sponsor, maybe a company like Glanbia, or Gain or such like so we can keep him ourselves without too much a financial burden.

Captain America Civil War

What you may need to know:

1. SHIELD is in a state of crisis after failing to elect a Taoiseach. Life/art etc.

2. Here’s the first look at the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland). He’s 12 now. And his eyes move. Compelling stuff.

3. Sony/Marvel’s reboot of the reboot of Spider-Man (The Adequate Spider-Man? The Acceptable Spider-Man?) will arrive in 2017. Jon Watts is today’s director.

4. Holland is signed up for three movies. Don’t get too comfy in those tights, Tom.

5. Broadsheet prognosis: With great power comes crappy CGI.

Release Date:  April 29.

Shonen Knife – power-trio pop from Japan

Here’s what you may need to know…

01. “When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert”, said Kurt Cobain of this veteran outfit, currently celebrating their 35th (!) anniversary.

02. The band came together in 1981 after founder member Naoko Yamano fell in love with the music of the Ramones. A deal with pop tastemakers K Records happened in 1985, which saw career album Burning Farm released Stateside.

03. The following three decades saw them tour with Nirvana on their Nevermind launch jaunt, as well as with Sonic Youth and the Breeders. They’ve played Lollapalooza and Reading, recorded sessions for the late, great John Peel, and even cut a tune for The Powerpuff Girls.

04. They’re hitting Ireland as part of their European tour next month. See them at Whelan’s in Dubland on the 30th, at Belfast Cathedral Quarter Arts Fest on May 1st, and in Cork’s Crane Lane Theatre on May 2nd (in a free show!).

Verdict: Broadsheet caught them in 2014 when they were on tour. Nirvana connection and their history aside, they are a savage live proposition. Get to ’em if you can.

‘Sup.

Some 110 artists from all over Ireland have each designed three-foot fiber glass hares with the results scattered around Dublin city centre – all in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation.

Of the Hares On The March initiative, Frank O’Dea writes:

“Twenty-five of the hares will be sold in a live auction on March 15, at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland [RCPI], Kildare Street, while the remaining 85 are currently available in an online auction here  (closing for bids is March 21). These affordable unique pieces of art will help provide home nursing care to approximately 300 families nationwide with very sick children.”
