Via RTÉ News:

The HSE has said it is currently offering booster doses to those aged 50 and over, those living in a nursing home or long-term care facility, healthcare workers, and those aged 16 to 49 with an underlying condition.

…If a person is 30 years or older they will receive a single dose of Pfizer or Moderna as their booster. If they are 29 years or younger, they will receive a single dose of Pfizer.

People can receive these vaccines even if they got an AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccine in their primary vaccination schedule.

Meanwhile…

The HSE said those who are eligible for a booster do not to need to have received a text message before attending walk-in clinics.

If you get a text, great, follow that text instruction“, Eileen Kelly, the Principal Clinical Lead at the vaccination centre in Swords, Dublin said.

If you don’t get a text, you can still attend a walk-in.”

However, she is advising people to check the HSE website before travelling to clinics to ensure their eligibility.

Currently, we’re over 50s,” she said. “Shortly we’ll be moving to the over 40s.”

Leinster House.

Fine Gael Deputy Emer Higgins and Senator John Cummins hold a media conference on the plinth about restoring vacant homes and buildings for residential use through new and existing policy measures ahead of a Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing.

Meanwhile…

Social Democrats Housing Spokesperson Cian O’Callaghan said:

“The Government is failing to tackle the issue of vacancy. We have thousands of people who are homeless and thousands of houses that are empty. In some areas over 11pc of properties are vacant – that is after you exclude houses that are vacant for a known reason. This has to change. We have to turn these houses into homes.”

“A report commissioned from GeoDirectory shows that vacancy rates are as high as 11.5pc in some of our towns. In total, 19 Local Electoral Areas were examined in detail and vacancy rates ranged from 0.2pc in Clontarf to more than 11pc in Kanturk and Bantry. Another survey by local authorities showed that vacancy rates are 5.2pc in Mayo, 4.4pc in Waterford and 4.2pc in Limerick. These levels are far too high.

“There are clear solutions to addressing vacancy. The Government should immediately introduce a tax on vacant houses and stop stalling with vague promises of action at some future stage.”

The second annual ‘Merchy Christmas’ artists market, presented by One Stop Band Shop, is taking place  this Saturday and Sunday over multiple floors at The Grand Social, Dublin.

Louise Barker writes:

Merchy Christmas is a real-life merch market where all your favourite artists flog their wares directly to you, their fans. Started last year during lock-down, it was the brainwave of Conor Cusack (Saint Sister’s manager at ie:music) and Saint Sister. Chatting about ways to create a personal connection with their listeners and thank them for their support over the year, they had the idea of a public merch stall. Working with Keiron Black and the folks at The Grand Social they hatched plans for this two-day event. Indie artists need your support, and what better way to do it than by buying their merch!
