John Spillane – Under That Old Clare Moon

Remembrance of things past.

Cork national treasure John Spillane (top) serenades us with the second single from his album 100 Snow White Horses.

Produced by John Reynolds and featuring Pauline Scanlan on backing vocals, the ballad is accompanied by a brilliantly shot video directed by Barry Donnellan and choreographed by Karena Walsh. It was filmed at The Everyman Theatre, Cork.

John writes:

“I composed the song in 2016 and first performed it in Cratloe, County Clare, on Valentine’s Night 2019 in the house of well-loved local musician Ger O’ Donnell. I then had the huge honour of performing it with the iconic Kilfenora Céilí Band at the Leinster Fleadh that same year. They gave it the ultimate Clare stamp of approval!”

John’s tour starts this Saturday at Magic Nights by the Lee in Ballinlough Park, Cork.

Nick says: John, I’m only dancing.

The Hard Shoulder on Newstalk.

Dublin City Council CEO Owen Keegan said tents in the capital are making the city ‘edgy’.

He said:

“I think the Gardaí will probably say that, objectively, Dublin city is very safe in comparison with other city centres, But I think probably more important is the perception, and I think there is a real perception issue.

“It’s not just the frequency of media reports of lone individuals being attacked, but we’ve had evidence of groups of young people, congregating, drinking and causing a whole lot of low-level anti-social behaviour.

“So I think all that adds up and creates a perception that Dublin isn’t a family-friendly place or, you know, friendly for women. And I think that’s something we have to be very concerned about.”

Swiss eggheads have calculated the mathematical constant pi to a new world-record level of exactitude

A lot of you might wonder why
We need trillions of digits of pi
(The whole thing’s a bore
Though it ends with a four)
But the boffins insisted they’d try

Behold: the Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider – an open-air version of the Valkyrie that retains the 6.0l 1,140bhp V12 hybrid drivetrain with the chassis and aero-profile modified to accommodate a removable roof panel.

Dihedral doors now open forwards with hinged polycarbonate roof windows that fold into the panel for storage, allowing the driver to fully appreciate the deafening 11,000 RPM roar.

Only 85 will be built and the price, as yet unannounced, will most likely be north of the €3.53 million price tag for the coupe.
