I’m not sure how people would feel,
In a car with no one at the wheel,
The boffins say that,
It works like a bat,
But I still can’t believe the thing’s real.

Last year’s protest at Jobstown, Tallaght
Gardai this morning arrested four men at different addresses in the Tallaght area and brought them to Tallaght and Rathfarnham garda stations for questioning.
Yesterday two men, a woman, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested and questioned and later released without charge with files being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions
Four men arrested in relation to Jobstown anti-water charge protest investigation (Independent.ie)
Workers Solidarity Movement writes:
Like clockwork the state repression of the anti water charges movement continues this morning with additional arrests being reported in Tallaght. In one case no less than eight police turned up in the early morning to arrest a 14 year old boy.
We are not sure yet on numbers (update: 4 arrested) but presumably there will have once more been four attempted arrests continuing the pattern set the previous two mornings. This is the calculated and deliberate intimidation of an entire community in punishment for a Labour Party minister spending two hours in a car on the one hand. And on the other it is designed to scare all those across the country who have opposed government policies into silence.
A protest has been called for 6.30 Thursday evening outside the Department of Justice on Stephen’s Green. Let’s make sure it is a massive one that tells the state Enough!
It’s a whiskey festival.
Not a whisky festival.
Oisin Davis writes:
The older distilleries are expanding to meet global demand and there are new distilleries being built around the entire country. The wheels are in motion for Irish whiskey to make a massive comeback! So why not celebrate with some of the best venues in the capital city?
Dublin Whiskey Fest kicks off on February 16 and runs until February 21st.
Twenty five venues [see below] are coming on board and each one of them will be offering up a special Irish whiskey drink at a 30% discount.
As Irish whiskey is such a versatile spirit, we wanted the venues to feature their choice of one of five different serves. So each venue will be selling either a hot toddy, an Irish coffee, an Irish whiskey cocktail, a pairing with a local beer or just a neat serve.

There are over 4.309 people in direct provision.
Would you like to help clear the backlog?
Caroline Reid writes:
As you may know, the Irish Refugee Council and Doras Luimní are asking for people in the asylum backlog to have their cases resolved in a one-off scheme that will draw a line under a system that has left people languishing for years.
This proposed one off scheme sets out the different categories that people fall under, and how and why each of them should be included in a scheme to grant them some form of status in Ireland as soon as possible.
People in the system now need to know that the end of this prolonged nightmare is in sight. That can only be done by those still in the system being given decisions that allow them to remain in Ireland and to get on with their lives.
People are encouraged to take pen to paper to write their own letter of support to the Minister/ newspaper/ TDs outlining why they are supporting the scheme. Letter templates are available via the website here) Alternatively they can email caroline@irishrefugeecouncil.ie for some campaign postcards.

On April’s Fools day 2014, the Gaelic Athletic Association announced a 3-year broadcasting deal with Sky Sports. The deal involved the sale of exclusive rights to a portion of championship games.
The plan didn’t really come together.
Dr Paul Rouse (School of History and Archives, UCD1) is the author of The Impact of Pay TV on Sport
Dr Rouse writes:
Although the GAA hierarchy has sought to portray the deal with Sky as a success and consider the reaction of people in Britain to be ‘a vindication’, the reality is, at best, much more complex – and one might legitimately arrive at entirely the opposite conclusion. After all, what we now know is:
Viewing figures for showcase GAA games in Ireland collapsed; The supposed new service for Irish emigrants in Britain, not only already existed, but did so in a more extensive way; Irish emigrants wishing to watch Gaelic games in Britain must now pay much more than was previously the case; The part of the deal which allowed the broadcast of matches on TV in Australia no longer exists and there is no plan – in any real sense of that word – for internationalisation.
Idris wept.
