KOTANICAL’s Karl Murray and his essential oils (top)

What’s that smell?

It’s the aroma of entrepreneurial gumption with a hint of lavender.

Ian Matthews, of the Irish Entrepreneur Blog, writes:

Karl Murray is an entrepreneur who has founded Irish essential oils company, KOTANICAL. After realising that other Irish essential oil companies were simply rebottling oils or mixing others together to make their own blends.

Karl  decided to start the first company in Ireland to distill their own essential oils and use 100% natural sources.

We spoke with Karl (at link below) about his production process, how he markets his products and the importance of mentorship as a new business owner in Ireland.

Lidl Ireland have just published research saying girls need more encouragement to participate in team sports on HerFamily.ie.

Today I saw that they are advertisinggirls’ t shirts featuring unicorns & boys’ saying ‘best player’ & ‘team supporter’.

I am absolutely fuming at the blatant sexism not to mention stunning hypocrisy. I’m delighted that they continue to support Ladies Gaelic Football but this ‘serious support’ should also apply to the clothing they have for sale…

Trainman Blues – Out Of Dust

Trainman Blues is Irish man Richard Farrell and Dane Laust Nielsen.

Via the band:

Richard and his band encompass a wide sound. He sings with guts and all heart, playing a a hollow body guitar in a finger style manner. On the bass guitar is Laust Nielsen, planting delicate and warm bass lines with ease and precision. Laust has been sculpting and producing the songs with Richard for an upcoming album with blues aficionados Ronni Boysen on guitar and Thomas Crawfurd on drums.

Tom Lyons, on Businesspost.ie, reports:

Former billionaire Seán Quinn has returned to business by launching a new online sports betting venture called QuinnBet.

The new venture has just gone live and is targeting sports betting in Ireland and Britain. It also plans to launch an online casino later this year.

Seán Quinn Sr heads the business but a number of other family members are understood to be involved, including his son Seán Quinn Jr.

The business secured a gambling licence earlier this week. Like Quinn’s previous ventures in cement, manufacturing and insurance the new business appears to be aiming to win business by offering lower prices than rivals.
