A day late (apologies all) but worth the wait.

The second Le Cool Dublin cover by Bray, Co Wicklow-born designer and NCAD [National College of Art and Design] alum Guy Cresswell.

Guy sez:

“I recently re-watched the Life Aquatic, so I think there’s a certain amount of Steve Zissou in this one! I wanted to keep the theme and feel from the first illustration, but see where else could be explored.”

This week’s Le Cool Dublin issue:

A chat with Guy

Thanks Kate and Michael Le Cool

Is this yours?

Take a seat.

Bonkers writes:

“I know you don’t normally do this but if you did normally do this then maybe you wouldn’t have to do the thing that you don’t normally do so much.
What’s wrong with the bike (above)? On first inspection it feels like your eyes are being violated but zoom in and take a close look at the lock and you see that this bike isn’t actually locked to anything.
All a thief has to do is stretch that cable by hand and then feed it past the saddle and around the rear wheel and suddenly Broadsheet are doing the thing that they don’t normally do.
The ironic thing is a victim of such a theft comes back to see no bike but a fully intact lock hanging off the bike rack. No doubt they are left scratching their head thinking Harry Houdini just nicked their bike using escapism. Not so, opportunity makes the thief and a bike ‘locked’ in that fashion is the easiest opportunity of all, it requires no tools, just a keen eye and your bike is gone in seconds.
So lock your bikes people, check out the Sheldon locking technique and make sure your lock is going through the triangle in the frame and also through the rear wheel too as it is often the second most expensive component on a bike yet stolen in seconds with a allen key…”

Thanks Bonkers.

Wouldn’t go in there for a bit.

Nora Mahoney writes:

“Thought you might enjoy this, a 3-bed in Blackrock [Co Dublin] that requires total refurbishment and *only has an OUTDOOR toilet*  [pictured above] for a mere €325,000. Savills says they’re delighted to present it. No boom here, then….”

prefab

Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, Dublin yesterday (top) and today

Anon writes:

“This [above] is the replacement prefab at Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, Dublin at a rent of €30,000 per year. The school has been waiting on a new school building for 20 years. It was finally promised one in 2012. Work was due to start this summer but a relatively minor boundary dispute has held it up. In the meantime, 3rd class had their roof fall in [top]. So 30k has been spent on renting something for a year (exorbitant in itself) which should only be needed for a few months, and which shouldn’t have been needed at all.”

And the lesson is?

Homeschooling!

Don’t pay retail for prefabs?

Anyone?

From top: Muffins from Fresh, buns from Insomnia and the pair together.

Two Spongey, sugar glazed balls of the Cake God.

Same great taste.

Same premises.

Radically different PRICES.

Sam writes:

“Bought a ‘white chocolate and lemon’ muffin in the Insomnia attached to Fresh in Grand Canal Square [Dublin] today. Cost €2.50. (top) While leaving, we saw the exact same type of muffin on display a couple of feet away in Fresh for €1.65 (second pic). We bought it, for research purposes, at the till in Insomnia. (You can do this for all Fresh products – shows how closely the two are linked). Diifferent colour wrapping/case, no noticeable difference in taste but a big price difference (85c!) between €2.50 and €1.65 for a muffin. There ya go. Be careful out there folks. ;)”

Just don’t mention that handshake.
