Caoilian Sherlock – folk-pop troubadouring from Cork
What you may need to know…
01. Shaker Hymn frontman and event-management magnate Caoilian Sherlock is venturing into solo territory.
02. Ploughing a melancholy, poppy folk furrow, reminiscent of Big Star among others, he’s already been busy on his own, including playing last year’s IndieCork festival and a number of support slots around Cork.
03. Streaming above is newly-released single I’ll Be a Fool for You, available on Bandcamp.
04. Catch himself and Dowry playing Mallow tomorrow as part of the Living Space Project music trail of the town, and in a more intimate gig setting Sunday evening at Gulpd Cafe in the Triskel in Cork. The duo will also have a Dublin leg on Saturday 13th at Thirty-Four.
Verdict: As warm and welcoming as his main outfit’s music, but vested with a voice and flair for lovelorn songcraft that’s all his own.

Trying to contain my rage as I type. I’ve often heard friends snip about the dubious mechanics of our main ticket retailer Ticketmaster, but I’ve never had much truck with them myself….until now!
Tickets for the utterly fabulous Grace Jones went on sale this morning at 9am. Having witnessed Our Lady’s previous two apparitions in Ireland in recent years, I logged in (at 8.58am) to purchase tickets.
Nervously I waited for the link to appear, as William’s Blood blared in the background. 9am….click. Nothing.
The only tickets available were Upper Circle. Surely there must be some mistake. I know Our Lady is a goddess but could the show really have all but sold out in less than a few seconds.
Disheartened, I was resigned to my fate..
But just as I was about to log off, I noticed that the good folk of Ticketmaster, while not being able to sell me a ticket, had a very helpful link to their sister website, Seatwave, where I could purchase tickets….for over double the asking price.
Seatwave to be clear is a Ticketmaster company, who allow ticket holders to resell tickets for well over retail price, for which Seatwave and by extension
Ticketmaster receive a handsome commission. So Ticketmaster are benefiting on the double off the backs of artists (and goddesses) and tainting their reputation. Outrageous…and in the case of Our Lady, I’d argue near blasphemous.
Alas, being of meagre means, I was not able to afford the double price tickets. So if any of your readers find themselves with a couple of tickets going spare (and at a reasonable rate) I would dearly appreciate it. And I’m sure Our Lady would approve.
Grace Jones tickets (Ticketmaster)
meanwhile…
#Seatwave tickets for Grace Jones will no longer be linked to for sale on @TicketmasterIre. Love to the fans.

Annie loves it up there, in fairness.

We’ve the passion and heat

Yesterday.
Jacky Grainger defied death cycled from College Green to Westmoreland St and on to O’Connell Street in Dublin.
The journey prompted her to write an open letter to Dublin City Council.
She wrote:
Hi Dublin City Council, after nearly being crushed to death under a car wheel [yesterday] morning trying to cycle in one tiny lane shared by buses, cyclists, cars and taxis, from College Green on to Westmoreland St, I then faced, (as all cyclists on this route do every day) the prospect of this ‘wall of steel’ in order to get from Westmoreland St straight down onto O’Connell St.
This is the scene every single day here, right outside Bewleys (Starbucks, whatever) if you’re going straight ahead. I am not a nervous cyclist by any means, but this is absolutely *terrifying*.
Most bus drivers here do their best I feel to look out for us – but they shouldn’t have to! And I’ve had more than one conversation with bus drivers hanging out their window who think it’s ridiculous too!
There is NO provision for cyclists here and it is only a minor *miracle* that’s someone has not been killed yet. What is being done about it and when can we expect change?
In fairness.
